Title: What about you?
Post by: MandaMe1986 on August 16, 2009, 11:42:12 AM
What is your favorite thing to eat when you are down in the dumps?  To me there is nothing like a nice bowl of green chilie stew.  And I was just wondering what all you guys turn to as a cure everything meal.

I love a roast leg of lamb, pumpkin, carrots, rice, baked potato....  a real Sunday lunch... and don't forget the pud.... baked with custard...

That will make me feel better.... (I have to confess... I can't eat alot but will have a bit of each)

Although I've never lost my appetite while on dialysis, being on PD means about 5 pounds of dialysate pressing on my stomach at all times, and I cannot eat very much at one time without being uncomfortable.  Today my friend and I are going to Katella Deli as I have been jonesing for half a pastrami sandwich and a bowl of their chicken noodle soup.  I'm also gonna pick up some of their parmesan covered bagel chips.  Wow, are they good!  Hands down, though, when I'm celebrating it's lobster and crab legs dripping in melted butter.  If I'm down in the dumps I force myself to eat some kind of protein as that is supposed to get you out of the doldrums.

When my husband is down in the dumps and his appetite is not very good he has NAUGHTY FOOD a bacon buttie or as you Americans would say "a bacon roll" have I got that right? Some times it does you good to think "shit" I will have what I fancy. :bandance;

For me it's Thai tom yum gung soup, with plenty of chilli.

Yippe! I shall have lunch at the Baipo restaurant tomorrow.  ;D

It's a big pot of beans with bacon and tortillas for me... I guess it makes me feel like I'm at home again. Every week my parents would make a massive pot of pintos to eat throughout the week. My favorite way to have them is brothy with cut up tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, and cilantro on top and a big spoonful of sourcream. This definitely makes me feel better and I'm a big eater when I'm stressed or down.

I wish I still had a cure-all food. I generally can't eat when I'm depressed, and with kidney failure added in, forget it.

I went through a long stretch where a cup of hot tea and a Walker's biscuit would do the trick. If I can find the biscuits in town, maybe I'll give the formula a go again.

I loved reading everyone else's picks!  :2thumbsup;

I don't know so I am taking a shot out of the dark and say an extra large Dunkin Dounts decaf coffee. But I really think I just go out driving on the highway to go fast to nowhere in particular, which might include Dunkin Donuts :P

Someone has to watch me and tell me what I do when that does happen. :twocents;

A long Island Ice Tea usually cheers me up, but too much fulid, so Zach has me ask for a "short" Island Ice Tea (even better).

Well I lovee Crabs.. so when before surgeries my dad lets me eat whatever i want.. so i usually either crabs or sushi.. i lovee sushi!!

But if its a "normal" day.. i must say.. im a simple gal. nothing better than toasted white bread peanut butter & grape jelly WITH FLUFF! sandwich. yep. thats the stuff dreams are made of. haha. I also highly enjoy adding pizza flavored goldfishes to my sandwich.. brings me back to elementary school lol when my dad would pack my lunches. lol.

But as soon as im done with dialysis i go downstairs to the lobby straight to CVS..and get myself a Arizona either Rasberry iced tea..or green iced tea.. i love it..and i drink it over the course of the next 2 hours.. haha. and i love ice..chewing ice makes everything better. everything.

Fluff I haven't had in a long time and forgotten taste. It did remind me of the comedy horror film about possed Fluff with Garrett Morris of SNL (forgot who else starred).

I tend not to eat when depressed either, and if I did, I can't have any of the comfort food I want anyway.  Chocolate cake, with vanilla ice cream...or chocolate and PB

When Dunkin Donuts first came out with the specialty coffee's, they were terrible and haven't gone back to that type there. I go to Starbucks when someone gives me a gift card for them such as HP computers. When I went for labs at my local hospital they now got me hooked on a White Mocha with a shot of Rasberry. They had me try something with Caramel, but forgot name that wasn't to bad, plus a large (20oz) is cheaper than a large Mc Donalds regular coffee.

An original milk chocolate Hershey bar, dipped one piece at a time into Jif peanut butter.

Or something hot and cheesy = nachos, mac and cheese, or lasagna.
