I took her to the vet today for a normal visit with shots - I felt her heart buzzing and did not give it much thought - the vet's first words were Lady Bird needs heart surgery -
it is one of these:
1. PDA: Petent ductus artenasus
2. VSD: Ventinicular septal defect
3. ASD: Atnial spetal defect
4. Tetralogy of Fallot
1. if it is that, she could have surgery for 3200 and she may or not live
if any of the other three she will die and there is no surgery
we got her in June for 400.00
and all I wanted was a puppy to replace Sad Sack and now she is going to be put down by the same vet
this is making me so sick -- she is such a fun puppy and we love her
Buyer Beware
the breeder is taking responsibility
-
Twirl, so sad even though it's good that the breeder is taking responsibility. So sad because of course you've all fallen in love with her. :'( :grouphug;
-
:-(
You made the puppy the happy puppy it is becasue of your love.
And the same can be said for the puppy to you.
Im so sorry to hear this.
-
:( twirl I am so very sorry.
-
oh Twirl, I am so so so sorry :'(
-
Oh Twirl, what a summer you have had. I am so sorry about your puppy. :'( You certainly deserve a break from sadness right now. Sending you love and hugs :cuddle;
-
Sorry, Twirl. :cuddle;
-
so sorry, Twirl...I know how easy it is to get attached to a four-footed, fur baby.
-
So sorry Cheryl, as you know I've just lost my Molly after 11 and a half years, it is hard. But all they ask for is love and that's what your little one had, even if her life was so sadly cut short. Sending you a hug :grouphug;
-
Lady Bird had a great life with you all. So sad. Hugs and kisses to you! :grouphug;
-
Saw the post Cheryl. Not ignoring it but just don't want to think about it just yet. Dan
-
:cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; Here are some cuddles for you! I'm so sorry Twirl. This is awful news.
-
Twirl this is such sad news. She is just a puppy and just starting her dog days of life. How can this be? I'm so so sorry.
:grouphug;
-
she was chasing Yogi around the pool and playing with him
now she is under me with a toy
the breeder wants to put her down now
and we want to keep her until I see the first sign that she is in pain
the vet will also keep an eye on her
we don't want her in pain
she still quality of life
we would never know about this if I had not taken her to the +++++ damn vet
:'( :'( :'( :'(
and dwcrawford -- I was looking for you and I understand
you are a friend and you will be there for me and I know it - that is not always easy

Twirl...
As a fellow parent to a pawed person, I'd like to say that I'm thinking of and praying for you and Lady Bird...
Whatever decision you have to make, Please know that you have lots of support here, and we're here for you...
May God bless and protect you...
Darth....
-
Give Lady Bird some gentle hugs from me :cuddle; and here is one for you :cuddle;
-
That's a sad turn of events.
Pets are tough because they never last long enough - no matter how long we get to have them it is never enough. But this is too soon. Hope she stays out of pain for a long time.
-
I am so very sorry to hear this news. Basset Hounds are special dogs. I have three . My avatar is my youngest Coco Chanel de Hound. She is now almost two. When she was about ten months old she started limping on her front paw. As she grew older it is very obvious that her leg did not mature correctly. The vet says it is not as it should be but she is making the best of it. He said that someone might be able to fix it but it was not something that his office or anyone in our area could fix. She walks with it rolled over but can fly when she runs.
The purpose for all this rambling is to say this, I am sure most people when they see her think I should put her down, but she is a happy dog, living a happy life. It is heartbreaking to watch her walk but I do not think she is in pain and the vet does not think she is pain
My thoughts for what they are worth is that as long as Lady Bird is not in pain, and you will know it when she is I would let her be. Whatever you decide I know that it does not take long to fall in love with a Basset and my heart breaks for you.
-
I am so sorry to hear this, I know you must love her so much, hopefully she will not have any pain for along time. :grouphug;
-
Twirl - :'(
So sorry.

-
very upsetting news for your newest family member because you only just started to get to know her and bond... We all know you will do what is right for her - and I am sure she knows it too!! :grouphug;
-
Very sad! I"m so sorry. She's a part of the family! Hang in there Twirl. :cuddle;
-
Sorry to hear Twirl.
Time to change vets for better luck or a second opinion.
One thought though is the breeder is taking the more repuable side compared to a pet store in offering an exchange. Sad part is one most perish, but she or they are taking the typical approach so that the pup does not suffer since pets do not show pain as we do until it is more severe.
Hopefully the doc is wrong
-
Oh Twirl I'm so sorry. As others have said - even though her life is cut short, she would have had such a lovely time with you.
-
this morning early before I left to go to dialysis Lady Bird and Yogi were running in the house playing tug--war and having a blast -
the breeder is going to pay us back $200 this Friday and $200 next Friday-
Lady Bird's parents will not breed again-
we can keep Lady Bird until we have to put her down - I am thankful for that -
it could be any minute and right down she is outside playing with a toy by the pool -
she is eating and chewing on us - like always -
the vet told me that she will go fast -- two weeks ago at an appointment the vet's did not notice anything wrong with her heart
the breeder's wanted us to understand that they will pay for nothing for us to keep her until she is ready to be put down-
of course we knew that
-
:'(
We get so close to our pets. I know your heart is breaking.
Aleta
-
so sorry, twirly.
:grouphug;
-
Here is a picture of Lady Bird Twirl sent me to post.
-
OH why did you have to post that adorable photo? Why? I'm crying full on now! Twirl, I am soooooooo sorry! She's beautiful!!!!
-
She is beautiful Twirl :-* Lady Bird
-
She's a gorgeous pup Twirl and the only thing that lifts my heart (from her perspective, certainly not yours) is that she gets to be with you and be loved by you until her short life is over. I am of course wanting a miracle turnaround for her but she may already have received her miracle by landing in your home.
-
:'( Oh twirl. I just saw this and I am so sorry. All I can do from here is :cuddle;
-
Twirl I'm sorry I misunderstood and thought Lady Bird had been put down. But you still have her and where there is life there is hope. My Molly was given 3 months but had over 2 years and because she didn't know she was ill she just lived her normal life didn't suffer. It was only the last 2 days that she was ill. I hope you will have your gorgeous little pup for a long time to come, but even if her life is short I know you will have given her the best one possible :cuddle;
-
she will not live much longer - it is a miracle she is still alive -
her heart is so big and it makes all kinds of noises -
right now, Lady Bird is running around the downstairs chasing Trasie -
they fight over toys
she was swimming today -
this is hard to understand -
-
Hey Twirl!
I just seen this post as I have not been on here in a while, but wanted to tell you that my thoughts are with you at this time and I am like monrein and awaiting a miracle turnaround. ;) Also, that pic of Lady Bird is just ADORABLE! Keep us posted as to her condtion. :cuddle;
-
she is by me now
I was holding her and I can tell the time is getting nearer -
she is not in pain but she is getting slower in her actions -
-
:cuddle;
-
I don't know what to say.
-
Just love on her like you do. You are a special lady! :grouphug;
-
:cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
I wish there was something I could say or do - it's so sad twirl. :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
Lots of cuddles for you and Lady Bird. Spend this special time with her.. she will know in her (big) heart how much you love her and care for her. Animals can sense this and it will give her comfort.
-
Lady Bird is so cute! I'm sorry she is sick. :cuddle;
-
Twirl I am so sorry! :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
How is Ladybird today Twirl?
-
:grouphug; Oh Twirl I am so sorry.
-
:grouphug; :grouphug;
-
she is not down yet
this morning she is barking for me to pet her
she still has a quality of life and is not in pain
she is loved and maybe that is giving her extra time
she was begging for a piece of chocolate from Trasie
and I gave her some ( a tiny bite )
WTH -- every living creature should taste choc once
-
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; 2 u Twirl
-
she still has a quality of life and is not in pain
she is loved and maybe that is giving her extra time
She's getting good care and lots of affection - sounds like a good life to me.
Take care twirl. :cuddle;
-
Twirl - I'm just really sorry to hear this news.
I'm glad that Lady Bird had you for a mom.
:grouphug;
-
she is not down yet and it will be a week tomorrow -- when we were told this horrible news --
right now she is running around the outside of the pool barking -
she must have just discovered her barking power -
-
Twirl...
It's great to know that Lady Bird is continuing to defy the odds and is doing well, and happily voicing her opinion... ;D
I don't know if I told you, but my last dog 'Suki' was a German Shepard/Border Collie cross... When she was about a year, she was diagnosed with a significant Heart Murmor, and significant Cardiac Insufficincy... The vet didn't even put her on medication "Prolonging the inevitable" he said... I got a second opinion from a vet with a particular interest in Cardiology... He said "Just take her home and enjoy her"...
She DID die... Five weeks shy of her TWENTIETH Birthday!... And in fact, both vets died before she did! :rofl;...
Keep fighting the good fight, Ladybird...
Take care Twirl, and I hope things work out better for the little lady than we anticipate...
God bless...
Darth...
-
:'( Oh Darth, I am in tears over your story and pray the same thing for Lady Bird. :cuddle;
-
W&W....
It WOULD be lovely, wouldn't it???... Well whatever the outcome, I know that Ladybird's one very lucky, well loved pooch!... Twirl makes a great parent to a pawed person!...
I LOVE your dogs, by the way... Our hooligan is a Yorkie/King Charles Cross.... He is SO feisty... Think he has Napolean Syndrome... You know... Small people (human or otherwise) BIG attitude!...
Darth...
-
Maybe she can be like my Molly - given 3 months max and lived another 26 months, she didn't know she was supposed to be ill so she wasn't ill, just kept on loving life until the day before she died. I hope Lady Bird will also prove the vets wrong and even beat Suki's record. Twirl you are so kind and caring I hope for a miracle for your furbaby :grouphug;
-
every moment is a miracle
I have not been diciplining her and she nibbles us when she plays -
she will nibble our toes and legs and whatever body part she is near -
I have started telling her "NO" and she is better -
it is a week today - and she is getting so long -- she is a clown
-
:grouphug; I love puppies.
-
Sorry to hear this about your adorable puppy. Watching her play must be bitter-sweet for you right now. Happy that she's still here, but sad that her time is near. I'm sending you some hugs. :grouphug; Hang in there, twirl!
-
Sounds like you don't have to rush into anything. Take one day at a time.
:cuddle;
-
I am afraid to look here when there is a new post. I don't want to read bad news. Give that sweet puppy lots of love from all of us. :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
we paid 400.00 for Lady Bird and the breeders sent me a check for $200 - they requested to pay two payments - one on each of the next two Fridays ( last Friday was the second Friday)
now, they changed their minds and they do not want to pay us anymore -- we have only had Lady Bird since June
she should live at least 12 years -- a healthy dog would
I don't know what to do -- we paid for a healthy dog -- we thought
they are letting us keep her until she dies - that way they do not have to pay to put her down -
and I am thinking they can avoid finding out if the problem with Lady Bird is genetic -- they sold 5 of her litter with the buyers wanting to breed
what do I do
they say it does not matter because the are not really breeders - I guess they mean there is nothing we can do
I am not after money that is not fair -- I want to get another puppy when Lady Bird goes -
:(

Take them to small claims court. You will recoup the $200 plus court fees.
-
So sorry to hear about Lady Bird. Just keep doing what your doing..loving and spoiling her. Hopefully when it is her time to go she will just fall asleep and not wake up...very peaceful. She is a very cute puppy! Take care.
-
Keep enjoying her as long as you can. :flower;
-
I hope she lives at least as long as the breeder! :cuddle;
-
Just wondering how things are going with Lady Bird ?
-
right now Lady Bird is trying to chew my feet -
she is a clown
she is still alive but seems to rest more -
she drives Yogi crazy with wanting to play -
she is very long and has sharp teeth
I want her to have every comfortable moment of life that God allows her-
and thanks for asking
I appreciate it :flower;
-
Twirl you are a good doggy mommy. My new baby is sleeping right now. I hope I have her a long time, but I already worry about losing her. I guess I should not worry and just enjoy the time I have. She is so small I've almots lost her twice. She has to wear her harness and leash now becaues she won't come to me yet and runs.
-
oh just wait-----
:yahoo;
something cometh your way ( in the mail )
and wait until you see the N page ----- :rofl;
I know you are not a child but you are a child at heart
am I right
and I got an egg shell thing for dialysis and it is a twin size -- less than 10.00
hope it helps my ass bottom
wonder if they would give me a shot in each side of my bottom to numb me ---
oh wait, that would sting too much and I would have to pull my pants down
-
We have one nurse who l-o-o-o-ngs to to put shots in people's bootys, we'll send him your way.
::)
very freaky!
-
:'( Twirl I am so sorry , i would be a wreck if I had to put my pets down! :grouphug;
-
Twirl, I am so sorry about your little guy. God gave him to you , because he knew you would take care of him and love him. And, you do. :grouphug;
-
she is still with us and she is getting so long -
she is enjoying every moment of life she has -
wish every animal in the world could have such a life -
right now she is drinking out of the pool -
maybe pool water is the answer ?????
we love her so much --
as long as she has a quality of life --- she will not be put down
however, I do not want her to suffer needlessly
thanks so much for you concern -
it means a lot to me :pray;
-
:pray; wishing her a happy life however long it may be. A hug for you too :cuddle;
-
Great to hear that Ladybird's doing well, Twirl...
She may well outlive us all... ;D
Love and :grouphug;
