Title: New member with dual relationship to kidney disease.
Post by: my4kidsma on August 08, 2009, 08:47:49 AM
I am the mother of an almost 14 year old son who had a kidney transplant when he was 2.  We were blessed to avoid dialysis and go directly to a living donor transplant.

In January my best friend's husband was diagnosed with kidney failure and was immediately put on dialysis.  Since then, 2 of his sisters were tested, the surgery scheduled and within 3 days cancelled because they each have some issue with the kidney they would be left with. It has been disheartening to say the least.

Now Monica, his wife, is scheduled to donate.  The surgery date is 8/19 & I have started fundraising for them.

It has been a amazing to be able to see the ravages of dialysis and watch this family and their struggle with it.

I'm glad to be here & hope to learn lots.

 :welcomesign;  We are glad you are here too!   You will be a great help to your friend and her husband.  You know first hand how this disease effects the whole family.  I can't imagine what you went through with your son at 2 years old. It is good to read that he is a teenager and doing well.  You are a special friend.   :2thumbsup;   Let us know how things go with upcoming transplant.  And we would love to hear more about your son.   Welcome to IHD   :grouphug;
