I was afraid I was telling too many people about needing a kidney. It seems thats all I talked about. But it seems to have paid off. A customer of mine at work is a blood match and is willing to be my doner. How do you thank someone for that.

Thanking someone for just TESTING is hard. But if he truly gets to be your donor, that's impossible! My sister-in-law is so laid back about her donating her kidney to me. Her thoughts are "You needed it and I loved you enough to give you my kidney. You are my sister." No matter what I do I can't thank her enough.

Even an offer to be tested is a huge gift.

I have wondered about it myself as I recently found my donor as well.
She is not a close friend but a co-worker. I feel very happy but guilty as well. What can I give her in return. What am I going to do if something goes wrong with her medically during or after the op? She has 2 small children?
I will be watching this thread for info as well.

The best gift you can give your donor at this point, Des, is this site (IHD). Make sure that your donor has access to all information about donating - the good, the bad and the ugly. There are many resources, but hearing from actual donors is the best. I gave my donor many sites to check out. She said she looked that them. I hope she did. I told her what questions to ask when she went in for testing, because I also didn't want anything to happen to her. I would have felt unbelievably horrible. ESPECIALLY, since your donor is not related or family of any kind, you want to be sure she is well informed so she can ease the minds of her loved ones who will be trying to discourage her.

This thread reminded me that I need to call out my incredible family, including my mother and father, two sisters, brother, sister-in-law and wife, all of whom actually went out on their own and got tested as possible donors for me.
Without my even knowing about it.
None were matches, but they are all gifts from God and I can't even concieve of a way to thank them.
That customer of yours is obviously a special person.

Make sure she knows she has to do TWO enemas before surgery. My donor did them the night before. She was not too happy, being that I didn't have to do any. Plus, she was on a clear liquid diet the night before. I could eat anything I wanted up until midnight. oops! ;) :rofl;

The lady who wants to donate has had alot of medical hardships herself. She is in need of another hip replacement and also has an auto immune disease of some kind. I really have mixed feelings about having her go through with all thats involved. She really is special. I have only talked to her a couple of times and she offers me this.

Has she seen the transplant team yet?
My team was so strict when selecting a donor.....
The person must be
not over weight
not take any chronic medication
not have any heart/lung problems
and LOTS more.........

I think that the autoimmune disease might make her ineligible. Can anyone else confirm this?

Hello: I am new to this site so am gradually absorbing all that I read. I was compelled to respond to your notice of receiving a donor and especially so on this site. CONGRATULATIONS and never loose sight that you deserve this and all the joy that you have shared. Not only has your life changed in a postive sense but the lives of those whom you have touched were changed (also in a positive manner). It is contagious and thank you for sharing it with me.

When my friend came up to test, he lives in Houston, I am in Dallas, we were sitting around and I told him I didn't know what to say because to me "Thank You" didn't cut it. He said he knew and I didn't have to say anything. I told him even if it didn't work out, just the fact that he wanted to donate was so meaningful.

Unfortunately she may not be eligible; our first donor was counted out because of the various pain meds she had been on in the last year or so, and the conclusion was she needed both her kidney's. our team has been very careful with selecting people. our second donor had as a child some sort of immune problems - and as a young adult had no problems, but was not eligible. our third donor (his mom) is just starting the process, she is healthy and has had no major health anythigns... only the thing with her is that she is not blood type O - so we are going for the long shot of 'incompatible blood type donor' so we will see what happens.. we've passed the first round of testing.. waiting on the next few....

Well, my friend is unable to donate because she has had chemo and the auto immune trouble is too severe. My dr said she took it really hard. I havent seen or spoken to her since she made the offer. I guess its off to the va in pittsburg for the transplant team. I live in Maine but will need to go to pa. for the operation. Thats the va for you.

So sorry .... the transplant thing takes alot of twists and turns and can sometimes be a bumpy ride.
