Welcome aboard, Jie.  I was in your lovely state 2 years ago, one week cruise and one week land.  Wow, you have really clean smelling air!  Glad you could join us.  Come on back and post often.

Hi Willieandwinnie, I cannot drive 600 miles. The 600 miles are air miles. If driving, it takes 2 days, total close to 750 miles, including 50 miles of ocean. The nurse and neph fly down here once a month.  I need to fly a lot too. My PD cycler has earned close to a MVP status with our airline so far this year.

I was diagnosed in Petersburg- I came down to Seattle, where my wife was living when I got sick.  I love Juneau, Admiralty, BAranoff, POW, the whole area.

Y'all can see pics at www.pacificcatalyst.com. I was the engineer in2007.

Hi Wallyz,

This was a great job to have. These are great areas to travel around.

Hi Peleroja,

You must have stopped by Juneau during your cruise. We have about 5 cruise ships to stop by each day during summer.  Tourists are far outnumbering locals at downtown Juneau during summer summer.

:waving;   It's great to have you with us.  I was going to say (jokingly, of course) that 600 miles is a heck of a drive!  ;)   I would love to visit Alaska.

BTW, what happens if the weather is bad up there, and the planes can't fly?

Hi Jean,

This is a good question. We have a glacier near to the airport and there are foggy weather from time to time during winter. In the past, if the visibility is low (like below 2 miles), the planes cannot fly. Now some air planes have satellite navigation that can deal with the bad weather. But if the weather is very bad, we still cannot fly. That could be potential problems if we have a kidney transplant and and if we need to fly to the center in an emergency.  Overall, it is not too bad. I flighted a lot during the last 20 years and have only a few times with this problem, mostly occurring 10 years ago.

Welcome!  There is another member from Alaska on the boards, too. I just welcomed them!   This board is a great place for support no matter what stage of dialysis you are in.

Welcome to our community!  And a special welcome from someone at the other end of the weather spectrum - the Caribbean - summer 365 days a year!  A dear friend just came back from an Alaskan cruise.  We still have to meet so I can hear all about it and get my Alaska keychain (I collect them)  Here you have found more than just a forum - this is a genuine family  :grouphug;  caring and sharing.  Just keep reading all you can, and post all you can!
