Title: Hello All!
Post by: LuvforMom on July 07, 2009, 08:39:42 PM
Hello, I am new to this site. I joined with the hopes of getting more information about my moms condition and helpful hints on how I can improve her living situation since she is living with me. She was diagnosed with Kidney failure in Feb 2009, by March she was on PD dialysis. Now 6 months later she is forced to do the hemo dialyisis due to a severe infection. I DO NOT LIKE HER DOCTOR! I would just like to be better informed and educated.... I could use some help!! I have tons of questions and I dont feel confident to ask her doctor....

hey there... how does your mom feel about her doc? maybe she should get referred to another specialist that you both may feel more confident with and comfortable to ask the questions you want to ask.

I agree with RichardMel, ask another doctor for a referal or if you can, ask other dialysis patients at her facility in the waiting room. I didn't like my first Nephrologist I was assigned to in the hospital and the next time I was admitted, I asked for another one and I am very happy with my local nephrologist.

My mom doesn't complain, she trust the doctors to just do what they're supposed to do. Her kidney started failing due to "uncontrolled blood pressure" which is bs since she's been on blood pressure medication for as long as I can remember so surely a doctor or 2 missed that her blood pressure was out of control and that the medications she's using are not working. I guess I just need to do more research on Las Vegas doctors....

thank you for the replies! i will definitely look into getting recommendations for other doctors  :thx;

I would have your mom look into this or other sites so she can see what others go through and things to look out for. Trusting doctors 100% is something I no longer do. So what your doing by researching is good, but show what you find to your mom in a non pushing manner so she won't shrug it off.

I'm sure others will have input in the morning/afternoonish time tomorrow.

Hi Luvformum.  Good to meet you.  Please ignore anything Richard or Chris say - they are trying to be nice cos they're bloody excited about how HOT you are!  Nah - just kidding (about them - not about how hot you are).  They know what they're talking about...I think.

 :waving; LFM.

Do you or your mother keep track of her bloodpressure?  There are many cheap electronic BP machines you can buy, i have learned from this site it is best to be proactive.
I am guessing your mom had a bout of Peritonitis if so sorry to hear that.
I also second if you dont like your Neph change him/her.  It is your moms life and she deserves to have someone she feels comfortable with.  And you should as well like the neph since you are the care giver.
Look through the many threads and learn as much as you can.

Welcome to IHD.  Your mother is indeed fortunate to have a daughter who is reserching for her.  Not everyone has a family member who is willing to help like this.  I am sure your Mom is very proud of you.  I hope we can help both of you by answering questions or just being here to listen.  This is a great group of people and we do care about each other.  Looking forward to learning more about your Mom and you.   Post often.    :2thumbsup;

Welcome to our community! You have joined us for what I consider one of the best of reasons - love and concern for a loved one!  This is a great place for information and support.  You have already got some good advice here.  This is a genuine family that you have joined here  :grouphug;  We will be with you and your mom all the way.  Your mom's attitude is typical of the last generation - they trust doctors totally!  We know better, and understand that we have to be proactive.  'Knowledge is Power!'   Just keep reading, keep asking your tons of questions, and keep posting, letting us know how your mom is doing.

Welcome to the site.  You joined to help a family member and that is great!  Unfortunately with the new privacy laws it is going to be hard to get information from her doctor for you to have.  I wish you luck.
