Title: Could you pass the latest citizenship test?
Post by: okarol on July 06, 2009, 01:11:37 PM
Could you pass the latest citizenship test?

In October 2008 a new version of the U.S. citizenship test will be taken by all applicants. Could you pass it? The questions are usually selected from a list of 100 samples that prospective citizens can look at ahead of the interview. Some are easy, some are not.

go to http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25461301/?GT1=43001

I got 60%  :P

I taught citizenship to refugees not too long ago. Is this supposed to reflect the new test? Because it doesn't seem that they have changed the test all that much, which is too bad, because it was pretty lame when I taught it.

There were 100 questions that the immigrants basically memorized, and they knew the test would be comprised of about 20 of those questions. Then the applicants had to hear sentences in English and write down exactly what they heard. Again, there were only about 100 possible sentences that they would ever be read, and they just memorized them all. Even the English speakers (like my husband) have to do this portion of the test. The test was never multiple choice, just really trivial. My favorite example of the truly random nature of these questions: Who said "give me liberty or give me death"?

Answer: Patrick Henry. To this day, I have only the vaguest notion who that is, and what drove him to make such a melodramatic statement. But I will remember the answer forever, I'm afraid.

Oh, and I got 100% on the test. Some of them were lucky guesses.  :flower;

70% here.  Luckily I'm already a citizen.  I passed Canada's test at one time too. Not sure if I could today but I hope I'd do better than on the U.S one.

Huge difference between getting a green card and becoming a citizen.     A friend of the family had her citizenship ceremony two weeks ago.  You have to have over 85% to pass.  I can't imagine going to another country, learning a new language and then take a citizenship test.    :bow;   to those who have done it.

On the UK TEst: 58%  WTF is a quango?

On the UK Test: 96%.

Good question about the Quango, Wallyz!

To figure out what precisely a Quango is, does, or comes up with
is a leading question
and you are not the first one to wonder!

Quango = Quasi non governmental entity

Bet you're no better off for knowing that.  :rofl;

I failed the UK citizenship test! (54%)

*gasp*

But if it helps, I also failed the American one (35%) so this little English thickie won't be becoming an American citizen in the foreseeable future!

I got 60% - not bad for a foreigner.
Now to the UK test.

Got 67% on the UK test, but that is considered a fail (75% is the minimum pass mark)

Congratulations to your husband.  Like I said, I can't imagine learning the new language, new country history, etc and then being tested.  Please post a picture when he takes the oath!   I am sure it will be a very special day for your family   :2thumbsup;

Yep, we can be thickies together!  I was going to add that had the questions for the American citizenship test been styled more like ours (and had been less about the Constitution) I would probably have correctly answered more, but then I realised that would be a silly thing to say considering I did so badly in the British test.

D'oh!

54% on the Pommy test.

I'm ashamed I only got 90% on my own Aussie one, but I reckon I was correct on the two they say I got wrong.

Have a go at it folks - www.australiancitizenshiptest.net.

85%.
Some of the questions were pretty obvious though  though.  I won't make any wise ass cracks I promise.
I'll have to go and look to see if we have one on line.

Well, NZ doesn't have one.  You don't sit a test, you just fill in a form and have to meet certain criteria.  Never mind, I'll just have to work harder on the US and UK ones...

I found a German citizen test! Click for test (http://www1.spiegel.de/active/quiztool/fcgi/quiztool.fcgi?id=33093)

30/33 right first time, so I could become a Deutch err German.

The Krauts must be having a hard time finding friends because (1) the test is in English, not German and (2) if you get an answer wrong you can have another go until you get it right.  :yahoo;
