Title: Training for CCPD
Post by: BETTY55111 on June 22, 2009, 08:08:19 PM
Well guys I am now training for CCPD.  :clap; I should get my machine tomorrow. My question is what do you use for draining into.  The nurse told me to get a  large gas can to drain into. She said the bags would be too heavy for me to lift. I sure would appreciate some ideas on what others use.

My drain line just reaches my toilet, so I drain into that. I see that I can screw one drain line into another to extend it quite far - I don't know if that's a good idea or not, depending on how my machine's flush cycle works.

There seems to be 2 choices ,either use an extension and drain straight to the toilet or sink ,if your bedrooms not to far away. Or if like me an extension wont reach into your bathroom i drain into bags ..notice i said bags not bag ! Yes one bag is to heavy to carry but there is a little fitting you can get that allows you to drain into 2 bags ( the machine sorts it out) but that would probably be your best option. I will have a look later to see what the fitting is called and let you know.

I forgot to mention, before I moved, I couldn't use a drain line to the toilet, so I used the drain bags. My drain bags come in pairs with one connection - as long as one isn't sitting on the other, they fill up about equally. Yes, they're pretty heavy (if you're using all the fluid in the bags you start with, the drain bags will be heavier than that, because of ultrafiltration), so you might want to put them on a cart or something that rolls.

I use the Fresenius Newton cycler and the drain line won't reach the toilet in my bathroom so instead I use a cycler drain set that is made up of 4 separate bags attached to one fitting.  Because there are 4 bags, I can lift each one individually up onto the end of our bed, attach the drain line and then drain all into the toilet the next morning.  At night, I place all of the drain bags in a small tub that I bought at Walmart just in case of leaks.

I lift the center piece out of the sink and stick the tube down into the drain, this way the drainage does not go into the basin at all.
