Title: Rejection?
Post by: MIbarra on June 22, 2009, 09:10:34 AM
I just got back from my appointment with my neph. My creatinine has ranged from 1.5-1.7 since the transplant. Today's bloodwork shoed 2.4! And BUN 49.

They are scheduling a biopsy for tomorrow. I am freaking out and wondering what I did for this to happen.  :(

Dont blame yourself.

Sometimes these things happen with cadaver kidneys are even kidneys from a perfectly healthy person.
Hopefully they can get it figured out and all will be ok ....

Unfortunately there's no way you can predict how long a kidney will last - they give us averages, which means some last a long time and some do not. You can only do the best you know how - and I know you've taken good care of yourself.

Try not to panic -wait for the biopsy report. They should get it done quickly and you will know the next step.

Have they been checking you levels on anti-rejection meds? Sometimes you can get toxicity and it can be reversed. There are lots of rescue therapies available for rejection.

Sending you some love MI -  :cuddle;  :cuddle;  :cuddle;

I'm sorry!  I posted a response to this on your Facebook and I wasn't thinking it was a transplanted kidney when I did!  Sorry, I forgot!

Anyway, I'm praying hard that you are not rejecting!  Hopefully it's a medication thing!  Please, please, please be a medication thing that can be adjusted!

Keep up posted!!!

I know it must be hard not to be stressed, but I am really, really hoping that the biopsy will give the answers for a clear course of action to help you keep your kidney.

Many hugs.  :grouphug; :grouphug;

Sorry for being late MIbarra . I hope it is not rejection and just something going around and you need more fluid intake.

As others have stated, don't freak out, that puts more stress on your body which isn't good. Try watching some comedies or something you enjoy to help relax and get mind off panic mode.

Good Luck

Thanks for your well wishes!

We spent the day in the hospital - only to have no biopsy done. I was running fever so the doctor did not want to have it done. He sent me home with antiobiotics. My creatinine was down to 1.9 (2.4 when blood was drawn last Wed.) so this was hopeful. Maybe after antiobiotics takes care of whatever infection this is, my creatinine will get back to "normal" ???

I am keeping fingers and toes crossed. Can you cross a dog's toes? I'd cross those too if I could on my little mutts.   ;D

I hope the antibiotics help and that it takes care of the problem so you can get back to your usual self. Get lots of rest if you can.

Any new news MIbarra?  How are your labs?  How are you feeling?  What has your doctor said?  Sorry for all the questions.  Rejection is always on the mind (in the front or back) of a transplant recipient.  :)

Sorry I haven't updated! My creatinine came down from 2.4 to 1.9 to 1.7 -- still a little higher than my normal, but close enough. Doc thinks it was a UTI that went undetected - I don't usually get symptoms until I'm running fever and pretty sick. So I avoided the biopsy - since I was running fever that morning! Thank goodness and things seem to be running ok again. Thanks for asking, Kelly!

And yes, rejection is ALWAYS on my mind. I know it shouldn't be, but I just can't help it. Sometimes I have to push myself to stop worrying and tell myself to enjoy what I've got right now!

When creatinine goes up it's hard not to worry!
I am pleased to hear you are doing better!
