I have been riveted this last week by the news out of Iran (the Daily Dish (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/) has focused on Iran since last Friday - a lot of Twitter content which I have not quite figured out how to process - really immediate, compelling coverage). I don't think anyone knows what will happen but check out these two videos. First this one on the Persian BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/iran/2009/06/090621_ir88_election_protests_update.shtml (http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/iran/2009/06/090621_ir88_election_protests_update.shtml)
Those motorcyclists seem theatrically evil. You don't need to understand anything being said to know that they are the bad guys. The photographer seems to be on some sort of construction scaffolding or something with a bunch of guys and is right in the middle of everything. I think the sound of banging is of his perch being pelted with wayward stones from the protesters.
Now checkout how it ends http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9ndxl_battle-w-police-tehran-iran-june-20_news (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9ndxl_battle-w-police-tehran-iran-june-20_news) I don't know who's who in all this but chalk that one up for the good guys. The guy with the camera could be saying something in Persian but at the very end, when the storm troopers turn tail and run, I think he says Hurrah! It definitely was what I was thinking.

I had seen the second video - I think it was yesterday - abd the first one appears to have been posted today. I too am watching and reading everything I can. It's amazing what has been going on, changing hourly. If it weren't for twitter, facebook and youtube the information would not be available to the rest of the world.
Neda Agha-Soltan (1982 – June 20, 2009) a young Iranian woman who was shot, allegedly by Basij militia, during the 2009 Iranian election protests http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neda_(Iranian_protester) - the video of her dying withing 2 minutes broke my heart, she's so very young. That image of her tragic death, with her father at her side, was broadcast all over the world and will not be forgotten.
You can follow the twitter messages - it's constant - 24 hours a day http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23iranelection (sadly, today some porno spam has appeared on this thread, such idiots out there!)

My husband says this site has twitter updates in one column, video and photos in the middle and current news on the right - updates scroll from the bottom up. Great way to get an overview of Iran's events.

I've been following the Iran election too. I pray things go well for the people.
That 2nd video is a powerful tool for understanding how the demonstrators are able to fight the police with just their numbers and a few rocks. Bravery in action.

Michael Jackson dies and all of a sudden Iran is no longer newsworthy. The cable news channels are all MJ all the time.

Maybe the Iranian Clerics had Michael Jackson done away with so attention would turn elsewhere. (kidding).
