Title: Summertime is for the outdoors!
Post by: serpico on June 15, 2009, 01:32:41 PM
I don't spend a lot of time indoors during the summer months. I like to spend my time outside watering my garden, watching the birds, and smelling the freshness of the greenery growing.
The reason I am telling my fellow members this, is because I probably will not be on the site that often! I did not want anyone to think something had happened to me. I have noticed that on this site people do show concern for each other!
Enjoy the summer as I will!

I agree!!!!  Now, if I could only figure out a way to do dialysis outdoors....  Actually, if I figured out what to do with the drainage, I could do that, except my hubby would have a heart attack!!  He likes the controlled environment of our little clinic area, but that fresh air is calling....

Hey, have a great summer!!!! Are you growing tomatoes in those upside down thingys? Seen a lot of them here, but only one couple has growth in theirs, they look just like the ads. The rest of them have one scrawny tomato on them and the bags are all ripped.

Grow them the old fashioned way! Last year we had a ton!

I agree but today it is almost 100 degrees - the pool is the only place to be when outside for very long - :waving;

I tried one of those upside down thingys, it sucked.  I got two tomatoes about the size of eggs.  Doing it the old fashioned way this year.

I think I am going to become really good friends with those neighbors, who have all that growth and see if I can find out their secret. Will report back to you. I dont know what I would do with them anyways, since we can't eat a lot of tomatoes on our wonderful diet(s).

I'm Italian, tomatoes run through my veins.  it's the one thing I can't give up.  what do they say?  everything in moderation.  nothing better than a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with plenty of mayo.

I'm trying one of those upside-down tomato plants this year, and another in the ground.  It's looking pretty good.  But, this is Michigan, so they've only been in the ground a couple of weeks.  Since I can't have too many tomatoes, the ones I do eat I want to be GOOOOOD!  Homegrown ones are the best.  I usually get a couple from some neighbors, but I thought I'd finally try to grow my own.  I can't wait for them.

Summertime,        :guitar:
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Oh, Your daddy's rich     :clap;
And your mamma's good lookin'      :flower;
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings   :cheer:
And you'll take to the sky

But until that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With your daddy and mammy standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy     :bandance;
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

I wanted to try one of those tomato things this year but like always planted to many. I wouldn't have room for all of them.

Boy, no kidding, but when it comes to my spaghetti sauce, moderation flys out the window. Cant seem to help myself. Same thing with pizza, that is a real treat, and i can not eat just one piece or maybe two. I will eat it until my stomach hurts.

it is so hot here our swimming pool water feels like a sauna -
we have to turn the water sprinkles on in the pool to try and cool the water down and to keep the skitters off

We are having another hot spell now that school has started. Ugh. Our pool has kept a nice temp so far this year. Always around 89 or 90.

I spoke with the people who are growing those upside down thingys, and the recipe is 2/3 potting soil and 1/3 chicken manure. Water daily lightly. Just in case you decide to try it next year.

The Northeast is still experiencing an unseasonable chilly summer even for us.  This morning it was 50 degrees at my house - brrrrrrrrrr - it is August where it should be at least 65 minimum in the morning.  But the sun is finally shining and I still don't need to wear boots to go for a walk so I'll not complain too much.

there are a few of those upside down tomato growers on my walking route and some of them are huge with logs of tomatoes and some not so great.  The tomatoes in the ground this year are doing so hot either.  The plants are huge because of all the rain - but because of no sun the actual tomatoes are pretty tiny and not turning red yet.  There will be lots of green fried tomatoes on the table this year.

Happy Saturday

 :flower;

my tomatoes finally started to get ripe.  I only planted two plants and I have about 4 dozen tomatoes so far, they taste wonderful.  I need to get me some of that potassium medicine soon!

I have been swimming since last October. I am up to 40 laps in the pool. 1/2 a mile. My summer fun!
