just wondering why no one had set up a way to know others in the same town,,like a support group.. when someone is low you can visit or if a caregiver is ill someone steps in for a day things that this we all use similar equip and wouldnt need so much training

Good idea. there are some groups in Southern Calif, but the closest one to me looks like a social group and fundraising group, and its about a hour and a half there. Nothing in Riverside that I know of. I guess a lot ofpeople make friends in center. This is one great website, and so are the people who post here.
Did you try searching yahoo groups?

:ukflag; As you can see I am in the UK and carer to my husband John, coming up for three years now. We had only just moved to this town 2 months before John was taken ill with acute renal failure. In those 3 years I have more or less managed on my own with no friends down here. Now last week our little village opened up a drop in shop for Carers, I went in and found out more about it and apparently they have been about for years, we have a telephone number to ring day or night, to talk or ask someone to sit with you (not medical)
What I am saying is maybe you could start one up, I wish I had known about our one 3 years ago, maybe I would not be so grey :rofl;

Check RSNhope.org if you are in United States. They have a network of people you can call.

Brilliant idea, Lodi!...
Don't think that there are many IHD members in my part of the world (Ireland), though... I WOULD be nice to be able to meet, chat, and just 'be there' for others, and have them be there for me when need be!... I'm caring for my mum, and don't have family support...
Hi Yvonne... Hope John's doing well...
Love to all...

Hi Karol...
Thing is, it's only funny because it's TRUE!... And we CAN laugh about it, because we're licensed to!!!...
I've facial hair due to taking 60mgs of Prednisilone a day, most days... I told Mum that the steroids were having awful side effects... She replied, and I quote... "Oh for Goodness sake... Will you stop complaining, and comb your face???"... Hmmmmmmm!!!!.... Remind me not to look for any sympathy!!!!!.... ;D
Love to all...

:rofl; :sarcasm; funny funny sending a comb or clippers which ever you want

Hedge Trimmer might be more appropriate, Lodi... ;D
Oh, and send extra blades... I've a beard that Osama Bin Laden would be proud of... And as for my moustache... Who needs a broom... Just run my upper lip over the floor... Sorted!... :rofl;
Love,
Darth...

My husband drives in with our friend/neighbor to the same dialysis unit so I know the wife pretty well. She seems to be the only one I can discuss things with who understands this all. There is no support group in my area that I know of. I feel like where ever you can get some support, grab it. Our friend is elderly so I help them out when ever I can as I am able and much younger (44). Sometimes it feels like this is all up to me but yes, that would be great having a pool of people to help each other out. I guess an idea might even be to get some contacts with the caregivers from patients at a dialysis unit. Maybe just start off with some phone numbers. If on home hemo, maybe find out through the company(?) if there is anyone else near you. Sometimes I wish my husband's daughter would come by just see him from time to time. He always goes there. It makes me feel even more so that this is on me. His sister is a great help when needed I have to say.

That sounds a really good idea.
