As you may know, one of our IHD family members, Bill Peckham, is the creator of http://www.billpeckham.com aka "Dialysis from the Sharp End of the Needle" which has done an incredible job of tracking industry news and trends - and in blogging about advocacy, reimbursement, politics and the provision of dialysis. If you've noticed, there has been very little going on at DSEN lately. So here's an update from Bill, you can read it here:
http://www.billpeckham.com/from_the_sharp_end_of_the/2009/06/sunday-me-blog-whats-the-story.html
Please join us in wishing Bill the very best as he faces this challenge.

I agree! Rerun can be the maid of honor! Hope you don't mind some humor, Bill :grouphug; You know we can't stay serious for very long!
-
Thanks for the good thoughts - I like reporting boat trips and foreign travel a lot more than medical issues.
Again no call back today but it's just 4:30 here so maybe it'll still come. I had the thought today that this would be even worse if it was before cell phones - if I had to stay home by the phone I'd have gone crazy ... at least I know I can be reached - my cell phone is working.
My neph did relay that the surgeon wants a cardiology consult - not sure if that was before surgery or before scheduling surgery. That's Friday, the gallbladder surgeon is scheduled for a week from Wednesday. So if nothing else I should know something by then.
I'm tired of feeling tired. And I feel under dialyzed because lately I've been doing evening 3 hour dialysis. I think later this week - maybe Wednesday - I'll go back to nocturnal, 2 days on/one day off schedule
-
He is ignoring us Paris!~!!!!
Bill, take it easy! Take care of you! :grouphug;

I wasn't going to post in this thread. It was all a bit too close to home.
Who is this Bill Peckham you are trying to marry me off to? All I see is a dog and an alligator.
Thanks for the sentiments. (and he won't have me. He thinks I am a closet Republican)
Anyway, I just think this cancer thing is a ploy to get more hits on his website. www.billpeckham.com (http://www.billpeckham.com)

;) You're right Meinuk, it's an effective plot at that, causing us to check out www.billpeckham.com more often than usual!
What's wrong with closet Republicans? :cheer:
The wedding chapel in Vegas was great - we could book it! :2thumbsup;
-
I wish I had known who Bill was before now, but this thread did get me to looked at his website. Thanks Bill. Lots of interestiing stuff there. And best wishes Bill.
And Okarol, I suppose if I were a Republican I'd want to remain in the closet too.

Absolutly and I've also been called smartass, dumbass, stupid... and a few other terms. So it is fitting.

Rerun, Okarol and I are all on the same page!
Bill, hope we make you laugh a little and with that laugh, remember how much we all love you :grouphug;

-
My thoughts are with you, Bill. I recently went through a period where I felt about as bad as I remember ever feeling, and I know are hard that can be. Hang in there...and I pray that you will start feeling better after surgery and that all goes well.
-
The surgery is Monday at 3PM. I'm using twitter to update people. You can go to the actual twitter page here https://twitter.com/BillPeckham (https://twitter.com/BillPeckham) or there is a twitter feed in the left hand column of my blog http://www.billpeckham.com/ (http://www.billpeckham.com/) and tweets now update my status on Facebook. A friend will tweet from my phone or I'll give her my log in information for the site for updates during and after the surgery which should be done by 6PM Seattle time.
When I took care of my Mom last year I wrote a Caring Bridge page for her friends to keep up to date about what was happening but I haven't felt like writing a day by day account. And really how many times can you say you're feeling like having a nap? But now that the action is picking up maybe I'll write more ... 140 characters at a time.
-
I wish you all the best on Monday and it's OK to take those "naps" as long as you want ! You've done so much in keeping other advised with "Dialysis from the sharp end of the needle" and I trust that you will be back soon.
-
I will be following your tweets Bill - good luck on Monday! :grouphug;
-
Good Luck! Remember the Peter Gabriel song.

-
Well Monday is here.
We dont agree much about politics but i look up to you for good answers and advice in regards to anything dialysis. You go above and beyond what the average person on dialysis does. I even go to your website :o..
Get well and stay well so you can do what you do so well. Advocate for so many people on dialysis.
Godspeed Bill & be well.

Thats the best I can do Bill... :sir ken; FOOOa00000roooot toot.... :rofl; use your imagination here.
-
Oh geeze, I hope you fart today..... :cheer: :cheer: :bandance; ( I had gastritist once- not farting sucks)
LOL wake up bowels! Bill wants to go home!!!!
-
Hope you toot and can tweet again soon Bill!
Rest while you can! :cuddle;
-
hope you make it out of there soon!
-
:beer1;
-
I'm guessing that this will be the one time you won't blame it on the dog?
-
You know we are family when we are all sitting around talking about your ability to pass gas! Hope tomorrow finds you home and recovering. :grouphug;
-
Still nothing - they dialyzed me for 3 hours today. I self cannulated with buttonhole needles was a bit worried that the button holes would have healed over since Sunday morning when I last had needles in but it was fine.
I don't know how much detail to go into but I feel bloated and have tried everything. Coffee, lots and lots of walking and what may be my first suppository. Or I've had one before and managed to forget the experience, not sure but still nothing.
They have a video library here; tonight I'm watching "The Gods must be crazy" last night I watched "Raising Arizona" which was in a care package from RSN.
I mostly have been spending my time reading the internets and watching the traffic back up on I-90 - at least I'm not stuck in traffic.
-
Home remedies: Warm prune juice, senna tea, apple cider, raisins, safflower oil with honey.
Hope you get moving soon! :sir ken;
-
A little Castor oil will doo the trick! ::)
-
Oh yeah castor oil :puke;
How about milk of magnesia - can renal patients take that?
-
Jamie Lee Curtis and Activia, but it takes 2 week they say.
-
Milk of magnesia should be avoided due to the magnesium in renal patients. Good old father time is about the only thing that works. With a laparoscopic surgery, it shouldn't be much longer.
Get well soon.
Peter
P.S. How would you like to have a job where you go around asking people if they are passing gas. Quite a strange profession to be a doctor at times, but quite rewarding at the same time.
-
maybe tweeted too soon
Don't forget to tweet when you toot.
-
There's enough gurgling going on that the surgeon signed off on the normal menu - I have a cheese burger and brown rice on the way.
I'm really hoping to be home tomorrow.
-
:clap;
-
Hope you go home today Bill. :cookie; :cookie;
-
I'm wearing pants because I can now fart.
(that is not a sentence I have ever typed before)
waiting for the paper work to go through all the required channels and then I am home!
-
Bravo!!! Never thought I applaud someone for farting.
-
As they say, there's "Nothing Like A Good Crap In The Morning."

This whole thread is making me laugh! :rofl; Glad you get to go home :cuddle;
-

-
Hooray for the toot toots. Glad you get to go home. :2thumbsup;
-
Good news! :yahoo;
Recent twitter:
I'm home. Yippee. I'm looking for a few days of rest. I expect a call about the preliminary pathology this afternoon.
-
Even better news!!
Twitter:
Surgeon reports pathology all positive. No evidence of spread; it was even smaller in person than it appeared via CAT scan. Case closed! ...11 minutes ago from web
Wooo hoooooo!! :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo;
-
I'm glad to leave the medical issues behind but I want to hold on to all the support I have felt. I need to reflect ... it feels like I am at a proverbial fork in the road ... there's time for that. Now I'm going to work on getting my strength back and setting goals.
First goal: I want to be swimming in Lake Washington by the end of the month.
-
I am so happy for you, I' glad your cancer was smaller then they thought- nasty stuff. At least it was encapsulated inside the kidney. :flower;
Have you ever been so happy to fart? LOL :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

Just wondering how you're feeling - hoping each day get easier! :cuddle;
-
Hope your recovery is going well. Rest and take care :cuddle;
-
Thinking of you! :cuddle;
-
I had a 7AM meeting I went to this morning - first time I set the alarm clock. When I got home at 9AM I took a 3 hour nap.
Tomorrow I am suppose to participate in a half day retreat. I'm not sure I'll be able to last the duration but I'm going to try. Doing my first overnight dialysis treatment since the surgery tonight. This will be a good test.
-
:2thumbsup; Glad to hear from you Bill and continued blessings. :cuddle;
-
How is your recovery coming Bill? Been swimming in the lake lately? :waving;
-
:beer1;
-
I've had a few low energy days - I swam a few days in a row while it was hot here but with the clouds swimming is lesss apealing and I could feel all sorts of muscles I didn't even know I had.
My chemistries are looking good but I have not been sleeping well - on or off dialysis. If I can get that sorted out it should give me more energy.
