Title: Introduction
Post by: Vampire1 on September 23, 2006, 11:35:28 AM
Hello I am using the screen-name Vampire1.   I am in Northern California.  I am an archaeologist, and am originally British.   My gender is of no concern to anyone on this board, and I decline to state it.    I am Gay, if giving personal information is necessary, and a practicing Hellenic Reconstructionist, which is a religion of the Pagan classification.     I have been on dialysis for 2 years and 8 months, and frankly the physical aspects of dialysis (needles, blood pressure drops et al.) are what I hate least.   I do hate having 14+ hours of my week tied up with dialysis, and a few of the techs and nurses are annoying, and I have yet to meet a nutritionist or social worker who treats adults as adults rather than as fractious children.   I am 40+ and I do not need an overpaid, undereducated person giving me lectures on topics about which I probably know more than she/he.   And the travel problems impact my career rather heavily.    That said, so far having dialysis enables me to mostly, live my life as I used to and I don't find it that bad.   Perhaps I do fairly well, because I am not diabetic or hypertensive and have no other complications. (So far) :)

Welcome Vampire1.  You have found a great board full of support.  Although I don't think personal information is mandatory, it helps us to understand each other and our unique situations.

Hi Vampire1, and welcome to our site.  There are definitely things that I hate about dialysis, but like you it lets me live my life.  But, I could certainly find better things to do those 3 days a week than go to that clinic.

I take it you are on Hemo?  Have you thought about CAPD.  I think with your career it might be better.  I would love to go on digs and find old stuff.

Welcome, Vampire1.

I grew up in Northern California -- still one of my favorite places!
