Kidney drug 'fighter' dies hours after his marriage
Published Date: 29 May 2009

A woman whose husband died from kidney cancer just three hours after their wedding described him today as a "real fighter".

Stephen Dallison, 35, died on Saturday after marrying Olivia Glover from his hospital bed.

Mr Dallison hit the headlines in 2007 following a long battle with his NHS trust for access to a drug he believed would give him precious extra months of life.

He eventually received Sutent (sunitinib) but never gave up the fight for other kidney cancer patients to be granted similar drugs.

Mrs Dallison, 27, said her husband had done everything in his power to stay alive.

The couple, who met three years ago, planned to marry in July but moved the wedding forward after Mr Dallison's health deteriorated and he was admitted to Churchill Hospital in Oxford last Wednesday.

"We spoke and agreed we didn't know what was going to be around the corner, and so we should go ahead," she said.
