the past few days of dialysis have been upsetting - when I get off I feel like I am going to pass away - light headed, dizzy and very restless and on Friday
my husband had to drive me home - good thing Bubba had my van -
I had a package waiting -
a paring knife that looks just like a shark ---- :o it is wonderful
and a weekly reader that I can make into a booklet about sharks -
I am going to do that and then laminate it -
and the best -
Cordon Bubba Texas Cuisine there are all kinds of recipes only a Texas could love and I will be sharing them -- MandaMe is almost a Texas as far as loving our Texan food
thank you Mibarra -- you are amazing and so are my gifts
Cowboy Stew is the recipe Pancho's uses for their green stew and that is the only reason I will agree to go to Pancho's
Armadillo eggs - one of Stasie's favorites

the only one I will not use is Calf Fries -
I do not know how to get a calf's testicles without hurting him
and then I'd have to peel off the membrane ???
and cut them into medallions
but yes, CRAWFORD -- I will send you the recipe
MIbarra --- thanks and howdy and you are the best

The Calf fries are referred to as Mountain Oysters. (sounds better). My father actually ate them. (and he's the one that hated dried beans or buttermilk -- go figure).
Yes, get the Texas cookbook started. That'd be a hoot. Does everybody know about Chicken Fried Steak ?
-
My mom will tell you it is because her mother was a Texan. But I will take no part in that..haha jk. I love Texans, you guys are some of the most caring and loving people I know.
And as always I am up for any recipe you send my way.

a friend of mine came from New York to Killeen, Texas to teach -
they stopped at a truck stop and she asked if the chicken fried steak was chicken or steak -
the waitress thought she was being a smart ass :rofl; :rofl;
I think chicken fried steak is a state dish of Texas
-
Sam Houston must have taken chicken fried steak to Texas when he left Tennessee. It's a hit here, too.
:clap;
Do y'all eat cheese grits? (Pronounced: gree-yits)
-
Only with meals.
Best thing about food in Tennessee is shreaded pork barbeque sandwiches.....
-
Your welcome, Twirl! I will never look at anything shark related again without thinking of you! ;D
-
Chicken fried steak :2thumbsup; I have a great cheesy grits casserole :thumbup; And nothing beats North Carolina pork barbeque. Pig pickin's are the main form of partying around here. A whole pig roasted, lots of boiled potatoes (with hot sauce),cole slaw and real banana pudding (like Twirl's) and don't forget the hushpuppies! Oh my, soooooo good. When relatives visit from the North, the are looking for "red" barbeque. No red sauce down here.
Willowtree, we can make any one syllable word into many! Grits is not one syllable LOL :rofl;
-
So true... true southerners can say one syllable words....
-
what I do not understand is that I have seen recipes for grits and shrimp ? what the Hell kind of breakfast is that ? :waiting;
-
how about grits and red eye gravey....Oh yea, biscuits.
-
What is red eye gravy??
-
What is red eye gravy??
:rofl; :rofl;
NOT renal friendly!
Made from the "drippings" left over from frying country ham, the saltiest salty ham around.
So, a Miss America (from NY, I think), came to the South years ago and was served grits. "What's a grit?" she asked.
:rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Gotta love the South! :clap;
-
Reminds me of one of the funnist lines I ever heard on TV.
Suzanne Sugarbaker and her Designer friends were traveling (I think to Memphis) and stopped at a cafe. Seated next to them was a group of NY sophistocates. Suzanne asked "Where y'all from? One lady replied "We're from where you don't end sentences with prepositions." Suzanne responds, "Where y'all from, Bitch".
It was funny when I saw it 20 years ago.
-
:rofl; :rofl;
Around here shrimp and grits is a great dinner. My son Todd loves it.
-
I've had it for dinner... but not breakfast. I'm weird about breakfast.
MIB: A Houstonian who doesn't know red eye gravey... guess that came from my Tennessee relatives....Had no idea how it was made but its good for "sopping". Tell me now you don't know what "sopping" is.
-
crawford I hope you read this
we had a new teacher from New York one year and she found an old referral on a student for "dipping "-
she thought the student got up and danced with another student and diipped her
I know red eye gravy and soppin'
do you know where to get calf testicles - not attached to the calf
-
Twirl, Leave the poor calves alone. They never done anything to you.
-
Twirl,
the mexican meat markets have mountain oysters all year round.. not sure if you have one in conroe... I am looking forward to the cookbook
-
Please tell me - what is chicken fried steak??????? ???
-
Mmmmmmm chicken fried steak. :2thumbsup;
-
Those were good ole days!!!!
Please tell me - what is chicken fried steak??????? ???
It's breaded beef or veal cutlet fried and covered with oodles of white cream gravey.
-
Has anyone else noticed that we can take just about any thread topic and turn it into a FOOD topic?
:rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
The reason chicken fried steak is called "chicken fried" is because the breading is much like the breading on fried chicken.
Yum, so fatty and salty. Oh, yes. Those were the days....
-
DW, I'm not originally from Houston.. I'm from El Paso. Since I moved here with hubby, I've learned LOTS of new stuff... Red eye gravy wasn't one of them. Soppin'??
-
Soppin means dunking the biscuits (or bread) into the sauce.....
-
I will leave calf testicals alone --- live or dead testicals
I started a thread on the book MIbarra sent me -- I will add other recipes - it is an awesome book
