Passing along info....
I had an interesting convo with my pd nurse and thought this info might be helpful. I travel to a davita clinic about 45 minutes away, even though there is fresenius home right here in town. Its one of those things where I have had my doctors so long, that it is worth the drive for labs and clinic to stay in their care. Anyways, the other week I wasn't feeling so hot. I just felt bad. I told the nurse that I thought about going to the ER. Well she told me she needs to give me an adapter because my local hospital use fresenius products and what would happened if I was admitted is that they would remove the transfer set and replace it with one that connects with their system so I could dialyze. She said it has happened to a few patients. Well, I get an adapter for emergency purposes tomorrow and I am supposed to take it with me if I go to the ER here. She said it goes on the end of the baxter transfer set and allows the patient who is set up to use baxter to use fresenius products without cath removal, etc.
I hope I explained this properly.

Interesting. My hospital supplies and stocks the adapter. Most patients use the Baxter system, the hospital uses the Fresenius system. Every time I am admitted, they add the pigtail adapter which has another clamp and a different connector at the very end for the Fresinius system.

You would think they would make it all universal regardless of the supplier. Frustrating.
Last summer we rented a beach house and searched for the nearest PD Clinic on the NC coast for emergency purposes. Of course Davita was the supplier and I was on Baxter. My clinic mentioned about the adapter, but I was never given one.

I have an adapter, they gave it to me during the first day of training... strangely, I am WITH fresenius, so I don't know who I'm adapting to.

Stan is with a Fersinius clinic and uses Baxter. I asked our PD nurse about this and she said that, our clinic was owned by another company and had been bought out by Fersinius and they are still using Baxter products but may be changing to Fersinius products. I think she told me you can adapt from Baxter to Fersinius products but not from F to B ???

I think I will ask my PD nurse about the adapter at next clinic. It would be good to take on trips
if there is an emergency and I end up at a hospital using Frenesius.
