Well, I am back at my transplant hospital in Lubbock. We have not received results from my biopsy yet but we did get blood tests back that showed my immunosuppresents were low. They don't like to see the number over 500 because it puts you at too much risk for rejection. Mine was 949 so that shows I am battling rejection. Dr. Helfrich called me at 4:20 and we were on the road by 5:10. I was admitted and they have done blood work and started my IV. At 8am they will take me for a sonogram and more blood work then start IV immunosuppresents. I will update often :)
Please say a little prayer that "Hope" fights back and kicks back in! Joyce already told me 'her kidney ain't no wimp' so I think everything will be fine :)
(I welcome your emails..... I'm gonna get awfully bored in the hospital!!!!!)
-
Hi Donnia
Still praying for you and 'hope' - sending love your way :grouphug; Get well soon, Rose xx
-
Thinking of you :cuddle;
-
Update:
Cretinine Tuesday before dialysis = 5.0
Creatinine last night when I got to Lubbock = 3.7
Nurse said she doesn't have orders to do the IV treatments.... wth? I guess my tx dr plans on giving the orders when he gets here. My tx nephrologist is who has ordered a sono of the kidney at 8am.
Will update with any more information as I receive it... I hope you dont get sick of my meaningless updates.... I'm bored LOL! :flower;
-
I am praying for you hoping it all goes well... :cuddle;
-
Donnia, those are far from being meaningless updates. Give your head a shake. We want those updates even if we don't respond every single time to every single one. Oops, I meant I, instead of we, there I think. :cuddle;
-
Donnia, I agree with monrein, no update is to small...
I just want you to know that I am sending all my prayers to "hope"
-
:grouphug; donnia, keep the updates coming. I am praying so hard for you. :cuddle;
-
Keep the updates coming! :cuddle;

I'm pulling for Hope all the way. :cheer:

Keep updating and we'll keep praying and hoping! :cheer:

"Hope" needs to get her azz in gear and start working again. :boxing; VACATION OVER HOPE!!!!!!!
Lots of love and energy going out to you today, Donnia!!!!
-
Thanks Kelly LOL... Get ur azz in gear Hope!!!!
Okay.... so last night at 12:45 am (I guess this morning lol) my BUN was 47 and Creatinine 3.7
This morning at 6:15 am BUN 49 and Creatinine 3.6
Hummm.... my creatinine went down .1 hummmm... okay, that's my update LOL...
Still waiting for my 8am sonogram.... anybody got the time.... yep, 9:40am :)
-
Hospitals seem to be on their very own time!
I hope you're hanging in there.
-
Just got back from my tests.... they actually put radioactive stuff in my iv to see how quickly my kidney would process it. We won't get the results till later. They are going to go ahead and start the iv immunosuppresents just incase. My tx nephrologist said 2 - 3 treatments wouldnt hurt me if it isn't rejection.... the bad thing about it is.... as my neph put it... it is the motherload of meds.... will totally deplete my immune system. No work or being around people for about 4 weeks.... just like a new tx.
Will update more when I hear more :flower;
-
Oh donnia. :waving; Make sure you watch the nurses and doctors that are treating you, they are the worst for being sick and showing up at work. Makes me so mad. Please let us know what the scan showed when you know. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed. :cuddle;
-
Will do W&W!
Goin down to radiology to have a central line put in.... yay!
Hey, it beats getting poked on all the time!
:flower;
-
Being isolated for 4 weeks will be no joy ride, but at least you'll have your IHD friends to visit!
I hope the tests turn out well.
Aleta
-
Good luck with the line. You are in my prayers.
-
you sweet girl- I like to read your updates- rooting for your kidney !!! :flower;
-
:grouphug;
-
Well, the central line hurt like tha dickens.... but it was quick... now they can take the painful IV out.
They are going to stop the oral prednisone and give me prednisone in the central line.... along with the immunosuppresents and benedryl (woot woot!!!!). Since my hip replacement April 28th I have had a hard time getting comfortable and sleeping. I get leg spasms and benedryl helps with the spasms.
Updates to come :flower;
-
3.6?? Oh YEAHHHH I can relate to that number Donnia.....Hope is still there and kickin! Another "lil kidney that could"! I have a good feeling now...you're in my thoughts. Kalvin (my lil kidney that can) and I are pulling for you and Hope. GO GO GO!! :cheer:
-
Thanks Wenchie! Yep.... 3.6. I can't wait to see what it is tomorrow.
Wow.... this treatment makes me tiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeedddddddddddddddd! Guess its the benedryl LOL.......
Oh yeah, and I'm freezing!
-
Dont know if I already said this.....
The dr said if my biopsy comes back positive for rejection I may be here 10-14 days for treatment! Right now they are treating for rejection based on my immunosuppresent levels.... getting over 500 shows you are getting close to rejection... I thought my number was 949 but it was 969. So that shows I am battling some rejection therefore we went ahead and started treatment. The bad thing is that it breaks down your immune system to basically zero. I will not be able to work for 4-6 weeks. I will have to treat this more sensitive than when I came home with my fresh kidney.
:flower;
-
You can do it Donnia!! Anything for Hope.
-
Oh Wenchie... they put in a central line to do my treatments..... :flower;
-
Sounds like you and the medical staff are doing everthing possible to keep "hope" chugging along.
Keep up the positive attitude! We are all here cheering you on . . . :2thumbsup;
-
Oh Wenchie... they put in a central line to do my treatments..... :flower;
Might beat the daily poke!! Whatever it takes to work for you Donnia! :)
-
Lots of prayers for you and Hope! We worry if we don't hear updates! Lots of prayers being said :grouphug;
-
Thanks for all the support!!!!
I am done with my first treatment. Now I have to start wearing a mask. My nurse said after about my 5th treatment, the staff will have to start wearing gowns and masks.
Oh yeah.... since being on the treatment 6 hours, I think I have peed about 900 ml! Before I was peeing.... but I would pee about 100 ml at a time.... now I am peeing between 200 - 300 at a time.... does that make sense???
-
Pee is good! We like pee! It can't be a bad sign, can it? Keep on keepin on Girl, you're gonna beat this!! :thumbup;
-
Wenchie.... u make me smile :cheer:
I slept a little while with the benedryl, about 2 hours.
I kinda feel crummy..... no temp tho. So, do you feel more and more crappy with each treatment?
-
I didnt...always felt a lil tired and just "blah" after, but it passed quickly. It was actually a bit less with each treatment.
Glad I can make you smile....that's good medicine too! :clap;
-
Pee is good! We like pee!
Yep we like pee!
Thinking of you Donnia. Your updates are great. I am bored too... sitting here doing a PD exchange.
Come on "Hope" shake that booty. :cuddle;

Thank you willowtreewren!
Man.... they took labs at 4:30am and they don't have the results back yet!!!
Comeon people.... this is important stuff!
:flower;
-
<--- crossing fingers!
-
UUUGGGHHHHHH! They took my blood at 4:30 am..... but it was never 'ordered' so they came and drew again just now. Should have results in about an hour to hour and a half.
-
Oh donnia. Don't you just hate those 4:30 am blood draws and then they come back to repeat it. Makes no sense. Let us know when you know. :waving;
-
Alright... no more getting my hopes up! Yesterday creatinine 3.6 today 4.0. :stressed;
I keep being so dang positive.... "I just know it is getting better..... I just know my creatinine is down" Bah Hum Bug! I think everything is better and it gets worse. Just ticks me off!
-
It's truly frustrating. My neph always tells me don't sweat the daily numbers....but they aren't HIS numbers...so I sweat them anyway. Keep your chin up girl...there will be ups and downs. I'm thinkin about ya!
-
:grouphug; Don't give up Hope.
Thinking of you all the time Donnia!
-
:cuddle; Hang in there Donnia. Things will get better. You're a very strong person and will get through this. :flower;

Well, I have my 2nd treatment down.... I should take lans early in the am.... will let you know as soon as I hear anything new.....
:flower;

donnia :cheer: glad to see your creatinine is coming down. You need to be real careful now that your white count is going so low. Wonder why you phos is going up? What are they feeding you? I will continue to keep you and "Hope" in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle;
-
:grouphug; Maybe some of the meds are making numbers wacky! keeping you in my prayers.
-
Hey Donnia,
Hang in there, keep a positive mind & faith. I'll be keeping you in my prayers.
-
I posted on the other thread and then I found this. :flower;
Whew, that emotional roller coaster can sap your energy. I imagine it takes a day or two for the immunosuppressives to really start taking action if you have already started showing signs of rejection. I'm guessing that once you have to knock down the refection process instead of just keeping it from starting up (as in a fresh transplant), it takes a little longer. Does that make sense?
Do you ever use visualization? If so, start imagining all your IHD friends, miniaturized, roaming inside your body in search of those bad guys (I can never remember what those cells are called). We're zapping them as we find them and your creatinine is going down with every one we take out. There are loads of us and we're fearless, so we aren't going to give up easily. :Kit n Stik;
Sending you loads of love and hugs, Donnia!
:cuddle;

Thanks pelagia! That helps :)

No biopsy results today :(
-
Great news, Donnia! Did you say you are still urinating? If so, is your dialysis sessions now getting shorter because your numbers are improving? Or has the improvement not yet been significant enough?
Again, I'm glad "Hope" is starting to wake-up a bit. :) Keep the good labs coming!
-
I also asked about dialysis - Donnia isn't getting ay now - so I'd say she's making good progress with those numbers!
-
I loved Pelagia's visualization! We all have our combat gear on and we are Donnia's warriors! :2thumbsup; We all want your numbers to keep improving. Glad you have your laptop and can keep us updated. We are a bunch of worriers! :grouphug;
-
Good going Hope! Just goes to show ya'll these lil kidneys are tough! They keep on goin when we are ready to give up on them. Hope is fighting, now Donnia...keep your spirits high. Sounds like things are progressing nicely.....cept that WBC...what's up with that?
-
:) Karol is right. I have not had dialysis since Thursday, so the numbers improving mean so much more!
Yep, Hope and I hare fighting hard... we wont give up!!!!
Wenchie.... the treatments they are giving me are tearing my immune system down... hence the lower wbc.
Can not wait until I get labs in the morning. The Lord and I have a great talk before labs :)
-
I praying for you and Hope, Donnia!
-
I hope those numbers keep going down, down, down! (Creatinine and BUN anyway)
:bestwishes; I think about you often during the day!
-
:grouphug; Thnking of you!
-
I also asked about dialysis - Donnia isn't getting ay now - so I'd say she's making good progress with those numbers!
Excellent! Then she appears to be going in the right direction then. What a pain this has been for her!

Donna I am thrilled to hear this news, hope you one tough kick ass kidney!!! >:D
-
Thank you..... Thank you..... Thank you!!!!!!!
Okay.... things have changed bigtime..... here's the jist.
They have stopped the treatment because the biopsy shows it is not rejection.
They are saying 'chronic' tubular necrosis. But even my coordinator said it doesn't seem 'chroni'c, seems it would be 'acute' because it came on quickly.
This is what I found on acute tubular necrosis:
The duration of symptoms varies. The decreased urine output phase may last from a few days to 6 weeks or more (yes this happened to me). This is occasionally followed by a period of high urine output, where the healed and newly functioning kidneys try to clear the body of fluid and wastes (this is happening to me right now... peeing like a russian racehorse!!!).
One or two days after urine output rises, symptoms reduce and laboratory values begin to return to normal (happening right now).
Everything that I have read so far has been positive on this.... I hope this is what I have!!! Seems like it will correct itself and get back to normal.... Please keep me in your prayers. Im not out of the woods yet.
-
I hope this is the answer! I like the direction the labs are going :2thumbsup; Still saying lots of prayers :grouphug;
-
Prograf can damage the tubals. That has happened to me. I take bi-carb and phosphorous. I am glad that your biopsy showed no rejection! :grouphug;

I would also like to say :birthday; to my daughter Brianna, she turns 15 today and starts drivers ed on Saturday
-
Just talked to the dr. and he is sending me home today. The preliminary biopsy report says it is chronic graft necrosis. Which means I probably had actute rejection 3 wks ago but now it has gone further. It has probably shaved some time off of my kidney. We wont know how much until it starts to fail. My creatinine is 3.1 right now and if it gets to 2 I will be happy.... hopefully it will get lower though.
I am sooooooooooooo sueing the pants off the surgeon. The one drug that he used that we think started all this is KNOWN to attack the kidney. If he would have taken 3 minutes to call my kidney dr, he would have been told not to use it. I am so upset!
Modify: The drug is vancamiacyn.... dont let anyone use it on you!
Thank you for being here for me my sweets!
-
donnia, So happy to hear you are going home. That is wonderful news. I'll keep praying that your numbers go in the right direction. Is the drug your talking about Vancomycin the antibiotic? Gets lots of rest when you get home. :cuddle;
-
Donnia, it's great to hear that you're going home. The hospital is such a depressing place.
I'm sorry to hear about the surgeon screwing up. I'll continue to keep praying that your numbers go down.
Take care :cuddle;
-
Thanks ladies
W&W .... yes, Vancomycin I guess I spelled it wrong :)
-
I've been reading this thread and hope your numbers go down, too!! I can't believe the stupidity of some doctors!!! I hope you get an apology out of that surgeon....my mom had some issues with her transplant and the surgeon flat out apologized and admitted he did wrong..she was floored but respects him now even more. Bless your heart! You are in my thoughts!
:grouphug;
Beth
-
Yea, Donnia. :cheer:
So glad you are going home. I feel for your frustration over the doctor and his misuse of Vancomycin.
Keep us up to date.
Aleta
-
Sorry I haven't updated... computer is on the fritz.
I don't get labs done again until Monday. I go to clinic to get a Procrit shot and will get labs at the same time. I have to go back to Lubbock for follow up June 18th.
-
Thanks for keeping us posted. Hope Monday's numbers on HOPE are good. :cuddle;
-
Labs in:
Didn't get a copy yet, but Dr. said my creatinine was 2.5!!!!!!!
:flower; YEA!!!!!!! :flower;

Great report.

Ohh yeah.... they took me off Prograf and I'm back on Rapamune.... YAY!
-
this is good news! :2thumbsup;
-
Great news :yahoo; 2.5!!! So happy to hear this :cuddle;
-
Sorry Donnia, just saw this thread and read each one. Boy you had a worse time than me in the hospital in May. I hope your kidney improves some more. Iguess I should get a new PDR to cary around local doctors office to check on meds (faster than getting a hold of someone at my tx center).
Reminds me, I need to get my monthly labs done this week, well tomorrow would be good.
Did your hospital have an email service? Could have had hospitals emailing each other :rofl; :rofl;
-

Rah, rah! sis boom ba!

Chris, I'm not sure if my hospital has email for us.... i will ask next time! LOL
-
Chris, I'm not sure if my hospital has email for us.... i will ask next time! LOL
My people will get of hold of your people and we'll get conneted sometime :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
That small difference does mean a lot to us and our bodies. We can tell a small diference in change in our bodies they can not by numbers.
-
That would have been too cool to be emailing back and forth.... I should have asked for your cell phone number, we could have texted!!!!!
-
That was the easiest way to keep multiple people updated at once besides word of mouth over the phone.Need to switch to verizon to get voice to text capability, so if I amgoing to be blind for several months, that would be the easiest and only way to be connected somewhat to IHD. ;D
-
Wow Chris, I didn't even know there was a feature like that... too cool!
Update..... you ready for this ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Yesterdays labs........
Creatinine = 1.68 BUN = 32 :cheer:

-
Thank you all soooo much! I have full faith that 'Hope' will make a FULL recovery!!!
btw... is anyone on Everolimus??? They are talking about switching me from Rapamune to Everolimus.....
-
Just my 2 cents Donnia - but if it ain't broke - don't fix it! I think I would hold off making any changes - you've had great improvement and changing meds again could create another challenge. I would give it more time to stabilize.
-
:bandance; Way to go HOPE! :clap;
:flower;

Woot, Woot!

Great news Donnia
The phone is new to Verizon on a Motorola q9 phone that is specially ordered from Verizon. Just found out about it coming out from The American Federation For The Blind.
As for that medication, that is the first I have heard of it. It's not listed in any information I have.
-
Yeah, it is a new medication.... and cost $6400 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I called my coordinator back and I think we are gonna stay on the rapamune lol :flower;
-
I haven't been able to check in much lately, but this news is the greatest! I am very, very happy for you! :flower;
-
Got my labs from yesterday!
Creatinine down from 1.68 to 1.54 and BUN down from 32 to 31!

Great news Donnia!!!!!!! :flower;
-
That's good donnia.
Are those lab results from your local hospital or from your transplant clinic?
Reason I'm asking is my local hospital gives it only in whole numbers such as 1.5. Yet when my transplant center does it, they give it's values like yours. Just curious is all.
-
Yeah, it is a new medication.... and cost $6400 a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I called my coordinator back and I think we are gonna stay on the rapamune lol :flower;
Glad you are doing better! Can you believe the pharmaceuticals? Who do they think they are - the government?!
-
Chris... it is my local clinic that gives me the results like that :)
ODAT.... right huh!

Let's keep these great numbers coming. :clap; :clap;
So we can all celebrate! :bandance; :2thumbsup; :bandance; :yahoo;

Thought I replied here last night :stressed;
Great news there, wish mine was that low, but mine is steady at 1.5 unless hooked up to fluids.
