Alohabeth just got a text from Chris. His kidney isn't doing very well and he has little urine output. He wanted Beth to let me know and she will keep in touch with him. Please say lots of prayers for him. I will post when I know more.
-
Oh! So sorry to hear this! Thanks for letting us know, Paris. I was wondering why Chris hadn't been around much recently.
I certainly hope they can determine what is wrong and are able to fix it.
Please keep us updated. :grouphug;
-
OMG send him my luv :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;

Terrible news!! Is Chris in a hospital where emails can be delivered to his room?
-
I will check on that :2thumbsup;
-
Sad to hear this.
Get well FAST Chris. Positive thoughts coming your way....
-
Last text was "Doctors came in and said kidney is "kaput" Still pushing fluids, but no output." Beth is letting him know that we are all worried and saying prayers. She is also checking to see if the hospital has patient email system.
-
Prayers for you Chris from the UK :grouphug;

http://www.provena.org/stjoes/ (http://www.provena.org/stjoes/) This will take you to the Hospital page, on the left column click on "patent emails". They will print them and deliver them to Chris. I know he will be glad to hear from everyone.
Christopher Smith Room 540-1
Don't click on the "email a friend" that is under the cloud picture. Go to the left column menu and click on "patient emails" You will just need his name and room #. :thumbup;
-
Thanks for the information, Paris! :2thumbsup;
-
I tried to send a message but Chris's e-mail address was required. :banghead;
Aleta
-
I got it! Thanks for the info. I hope he gets out soon.

-
Chris,
So sorry to hear you're not doing well right now. I hope things get better soon and they figure out how to help you.
-
Thanks Paris
-
I sent him an email full of threats .... he wouldn't know it was me if it wasn't. I did offer to pirate in some chocolate if needed though!!!
-
No, I think it was your email they wanted. Do you mean on the hospital's site? I sent one. Thoughts and prayers going Chris' way.
-
I am so sorry to hear this. Keep us posted! Chris, we are thinking about you and love you dearly! Hang in there buddy!!! :cuddle;
-
so sorry to hear this thinking of you :grouphug;

Sorry to hear that Chris. That is really bad news. Love and thoughts sent your way. xx

Patient email is available to send Chris messages. See link on page 1.

UPDATE! Last messages To Beth: ultrasound shows narrowing of renal artery. The next thing is a scope. He is "hopped" up on drugs, doesn't feel good, having trouble seeing . And he is looking forward to emails!! These texts were sent around 7:30 his time. I am so glad Chris let Beth know he was in the hospital and hurray for texting!!
-
So sorry to hear about this - I will keep Chris in my prayers.
-
Thank you for the update Paris. I'm not much for prayer or organized religion but I know many of you are. I wish we could all stop for a minute or so, say at 10 PM tonight, and say prayers or send positive vibes or whatever we can do for Chris. I remember my bible and there is something about "when two or more of you...". Somebody else finish it.
-
6 minutes edt dw...
-
Chris, I am sorry you're having trouble. I hope things can turn around and that "kaput" is only a temporary glitch.
:bow;
:cuddle;
Alene
-
Prayers for Chris. And DW, your post touched my heart so much. I will ask Beth to let Chris know how much we are thinking of him. :grouphug;
-
Reading this has left me in tears I am so upset (not a good look sitting at my desk at work !)
I can't believe it.. I am so unhappy to read this. I have sent an email to him (thanks Paris!)
I am so glad AB has kept in touch with him and been a good support and he had her number still to let us all know what was going on. Thank God for AB!!!! :)
(Paris, I think she needs to take a trip to cheer him up in person....)
Chris is totally in my thoughts... this is just horrible.
-
Pray for Chris. Recover soon.
-
Here's hoping the doctors knock that kidney back into shape... Keeping you in my thoughts, Chris.
-
I am full of unacceptable expletives. :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead;
Thanks for posting the info Paris, I sent Chris a note. And even though I missed the official time, I am saying a whole bunch of prayers.
Chris, this is for you :cuddle;
-
Oh Chris, What a bugger. I can only hope they are able to widen the narrowing in the artery and the kidney "wakes up" and starts to pee.
Thinking of you. :cuddle;
-
Thinking of you Buddy. :grouphug;
-
No news yet this morning. Beth will let us know when she hears from him. Keep the emails and prayers going :grouphug;
-
Update: He hasn't had the scope yet. They have found another problem, but his cell battery is dying, so he kept the text short. Beth keeps sending him texts to cheer him --like David is sending him virtual chocolate and Richard thinks Beth should go to Chicago. She will let us know when the next text comes in.
Love you, Chris :grouphug;
-
I just emailed Chris, you know you have to type in a word to prove your a real person. well the word they gave me was diuretic - honestly isn't that just rubbing salt into the wound!
Get well soon Chris :grouphug;
-
Get better, Chris.
I know you're a fighter! :boxing;
-
Get well- your missed here!!! :flower;
-
:grouphug;
-
Well I got my anwser. Chris I hope your feeling better soon!
-
The latest: Urologist was in to see Chris. He thinks something is going on with his prostrate. More tests, more meds. Doctor says Chris is really young for prostrate problems. He is still nauseous and just not feeling good. His cell charger is in his truck in the parking lot! Wish I could go get his charger for him. Chris said to Beth "if I was playing golf, I would probably be struck by lightening, too" She will let us know when she hears more. :cuddle;
-
Chris "Text God" Smith, that's what I am going to call him. I've been texting too...same info as posted above. I am sure there is someone at that hospital who can go get his charger for him. Chicago is a long drive for me. Hey.....what about Jess? She is fairly close to him in location....I think. Any other IHDers in that area?
Just trying to think outside of the box here. We cannot allow him to be without technology...its worse than being without chocolate and would mess terribly with his psyche!
-
Anyone feel like taking a trip maybe Sunday to see Chris? I'm contemplating it. PM me if interested.
-
Hey guys! Sitting at UNC with mom (she's doing great btw -- she has about two hours left and is feeling "marvi") Just thought I would check in and give a Chris update --
At about 1am last I had a text saying he just got back from his CT and all he got out of it was a freezing butt. --- So at least we know his sense of humor is intact!
He has recieved the emails and he thanks everyone for them!
He says hes feeling better today but that it could be due to all the drugs :) I asked if we needed to stage an intervention and he told me only if it's for his chocolate addiction!
And watch out RichardMel -- Chris is flirting from his hospital room -- so you better step up your game or give up now ;)
Keep the well wishes and emails coming -- I know he is grateful for this family on here.
:)
Aloha,
Beth
-
Thanks for the update, AB!
Glad to hear Paris is doing well, too! :clap;
-
Thanks for the news on Chris and on your mom. We were just wondering how things went. Your mom is lucky to have you there with her. You're a great daughter, and I know she appreciates you.
-
Thanks Beth! Glad to hear that Mom is doing well with the treatment! I told her not to worry! Knew she would do fine with it.
I just got a text from "Frozen Butt Boy" who is now preparing for a little exploration of said frozen area. We all know THAT isn't pleasant! He does seem to be keeping his humor through this...and of course...I don't help with some of the messages I am sending him!
-
Thanks AB...good to hear about Paris..I was just sitting here wondering about her.
"Frozen Butt Boy"....hmm sounds like a new movie....glad he is ok.
-
"Frozen Butt Boy"....hmm sounds like a new movie....
:rofl;
-
Somebody tell Chris to put his pants back on.
-
We want Chris to get his frozen butt home! :grouphug;
-
I just read the whole thread,
Thanks to AB and Paris, you two are amazing, I just emailed Chris I hope he recovers fast
F-in Kidneys :boxing;
-
Chris
please come back soon
I miss you
we all miss our Chris
we are your family too
:sir ken; do we have any icebergs
-
Any news?
-
Sent him an email also, why I bet if AB were to go to his bedside he would perk up real quick.. >:D
-
Currently texting with him. He is nauseous and feeling weak. He says the doc was in this evening, but that they had him so drugged he doesnt recall what the doc said. Damn, I wish I lived closer...I'm good at being bossy!!!
Seems that he is quite on his own in this...sad state of affairs. But he is still funny!
-
Chris "Text God" Smith, that's what I am going to call him. I've been texting too...same info as posted above. I am sure there is someone at that hospital who can go get his charger for him. actually I thought "I should get it for him" when I read this..but then again I just read this...he probably has gotten it by now. I'll send him a text and see. But yea I should be around Sunday too sluff.....
-
Alert...Alert...
Chris 'Text God" Smith has his phone charger, according to the text I just recieved.
That is all.
-
Well, I get busy with life and look what happens! Sorry to hear Chris is having troubles. Would one of you texting, tell Chris I hope the Docs are gentle with his "frozen but", and that he is in our thoughts and prayers here on this end :thumbup;
-
LOL AB honey I gave up long ago. Chris is THE text and flirting king!!
I am so glad he's got his charger... now I hope things improve for him medically.. he is definitely in my thoughts as with everyone else.
Still with the hotties of IHD (Jess, Wenchie, AB and others) keeping him innundated with texts and feeding his inner flirt, that will give him extra strength to hopefully come good!! Fingers crossed!!
You go girls!
You go Chris!
:2thumbsup;
-
Ahhhhhh flirt....no, but I am more than willing to take on the WENCHMom role. Oh wait...I think I already did that! I think Chris takes great comfort in knowing people care about him. (Especially those of the younger, female persuasion)!
I hope some of you that are close enough can pop in and see him. Jess..if you do...make sure he keep his "frozen butt" covered! LOL
-
He better keep that frozen butt covered if he expects a visit from me. :rofl;
-
Someone text chris and let him know I had a crappy non-date tonight.. it might cheer him up somehow!! :rofl;
:)
thinking of Chris and hoping for better news soon (but hopefully not about his butt.. everyone knows I'm a breast and leg man!!! >:D)
-
Oh Richard, I'm sure that Chris has nice legs. I wouldn't count on his breat looking like the one you like however...
-
All I know is that Beth kept laughing at Chris texts yesterday and didn't "share" all of them. Said Chris was busy flirting, so he at least he is keeping busy! What a boy! :cuddle; I don't think his parents visit him in the hospital, so he has very long days. Thank goodness for the IHD women who are keeping him company :2thumbsup;
-
:cuddle; I have been away all week myself. Chris, I am so sorry to hear this news and pray those doctors get off their butts and fix you up. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. :cuddle;
-
Should we send blankets for his cold butt???
Still thinking about you Chris and hoping for the best! :cuddle;
-
Sluff, please send my thoughts and prayers to Chris if you go...
-
Thinking of you Chris. :waving;
-

Just read this whole thread and I am in tears..... Chris, you are in my heart and prayers!!!!
Sent him a note... and will keep sending them! Patiently waiting for updates
-
does anyone know how Chris is doing?? :grouphug;
-
Here is the latest Text message recieved today 9:56am
"Besides nausea and vomiting woke up with a temp. Infection specialist and G.I.Doc's called in. I need a vacation
Chris"
-
Somebody tell Chris via texting (which I can't do) that if he'll get well, go home and send me his mailing address that I will personally send him a half gallon of the blue bell ice cream of his choice. All he has to do is tell me the flavor and when he wants it....real ice cream, not virtual.
I just had a serious low blood sugar attack and I was forced to eat some natural vanilla bean in a glass of real coke.
-
Poor thing! Tell him we are all thinking of him and love him! :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; All for you Chris
-
Thinking of you Chris. :cuddle; :cuddle; Sure hope they figure out what is going on soon.

-
Sluff, you are the best, give Chris a xxoo for me
-
Be safe Sluff :sluff; and tell Chris I'm sending big :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
it is awesome you guys are going to visit him. that's almost as good as Beth showing up just a bow tie (oh what? he doesn't have blood pressure problems?? he will now!! :rofl;) - it is wonderful to know how much support IHD gives its family members and the effort you all go to!!
-
I can never understand the time difference so I'm not sure if you've been or not gone yet!! But either way I hope Chris is improving and is cheered up by knowing so many of us are rooting for him. Thanks for representing all of us Sluffbunny. :bunny:
-
Oh wow, I'm first to put in the latest text update?
4:18pm- Sluff, Christine, Josh/Patton, and his girlfriend was just here for a surprise visit. Sluff said he'll post pics later. Docs may remove gallbladder.
I responded back saying they just don't know what's wrong with him, do they?
I just got the message you were going sluff...seems like the room would've been too full anyway!
-
:2thumbsup; That's great - I am sure it lifted Chris's spirits to have that visit - Sluff - thank you and your entourage for making that 4 1/2 hour trek!
-
Sluff said: "I will be leaving here around 7:30am Jess. I'm thinking we should be at the hospital around noonish give or take."
Man, oh man, oh man! You guys are the greatest. I'm mostly a lurker here (my dad is the one on dialysis, and he's not computer-savvy or even computer-interested LOL!!), but it always amazes me to see the lengths that people here on IHD go to to support each other.
Pat
-
Still thinking about you, Chris and hoping they find out what's wrong and get you home! :waving;
-
The relationships we form are hard to explain to the "outside" world. My husband had to meet some of these great people in person for him to understand how close we are. No one is just a post; we all really care for each other. And Sluff, well he has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known. He is the quiet one you can always count on. Visiting Chris is a typical act of kindness for Sluff. I love that man with all my heart. And Chris, you know we all love you so much and what those doctors to figure things out and fix you! We need you back here with us and back in the chat room. Love you!! :cuddle;
-
Chris sent me a pic message in his hospital gown......from the front, darn it! lol He's keepin his sharp wit! Course I sent him a pic of one eye..saying I was gonna keep an eye on him! lol Doing what I can long distance.
-
I am back from my trip visiting Chris. I took my laptop along but to no avail we could not get to the forums for Chris to post. We had a wonderful visit and I know Chris understands how much we (all of you)care about him. Because of traffic it took 6 hrs to get to the hospital so it turned out to be a long day. Didn't get home until 12:30am today. It was worth the trek, to see his face once he realized who we all were. Two sunburned biker dudes and 2 pretty ladies walking in and waking him up from sleep. :rofl; I'm surprised he didn't jump up and run.
1. Christy and Chris
2. Josh and Chris
-
Sluff,
You are great for doing this. I wish I lived closer to Chicago!
Chris, get your cold butt better and get outta there.
Aleta
-
Thanks Sluff for going and checking in on him. I know we are all worried.
-
Chris looks pretty damn good....Are we sure he's not milking all this for all its worth (joke, joke). I hope he'll put some pants on under that gown and get back to home and the ihd soon.
Dan...
-
DW, Chris laughed when I relayed your meesage about the icecream. I think he said chocolate and it better still be froze... :rofl;
-
Thanks Sluff. He'll get chocolate if that what he wants...
-
:cuddle; Sluff, we need an angel icon. How sweet of you and Josh to go check on Chris. He does look good and I pray that doctors figure out what is going on fast. I need to send Chris an email today. Thanks again Sluff, your a doll-baby or in your case a teddybear. :cuddle;
-
Chris and Josh look good together. Josh (Sluff's son) was at the Chicago meet last year and he was just as sweet as his Dad. He was always the first to ask if someone needed help. Chris and Josh had a good time downloading songs, ringtones, etc and hung out in Okarols room till midnight. So, Josh comes by his big heart honestly :cuddle; It was a joy meeting him. Josh leaves to start boot camp soon and we are all proud of his decision to serve his country. :usaflag;
Back to Chris, We miss you, we miss you, we miss you :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
:flower; thank you Sluff and family for visiting Chris :flower;
:waving; Chris, I hope they figure out what the heck is going on soon!! :cuddle;
-
Last text from Chris...
3:53pm- Had a bad night, little sleep. Had 2 nausea meds in the am, knocked me out til now. Feel crappy.
But it's all dark and rainy here in IL today...I'd sleep too!
-
Last word from Beth was Chris will see the doctor tomorrow. I guess everyone was gone for the holiday!?
We still hoping and praying everyday Chris. They got to figure this out soon. We miss you :grouphug;
-
Sending you lots of :cuddle; and hoping they can get you back on track.
-

:yahoo; Get lots of rest Chris!
-
I sent him a message, and he responded saying he got home after 8pm tonight!! :yahoo; :2thumbsup; :cheer:
-
I read every message here and the emails I received at the hospital and appreciate what all has been said.
I did have jeans on when Sluff was there, helped me keep warm. Only chocolate I had was chocolate ensure and low fat chocolate malt shakes they had.
As for what happened and is happening, I'll write more later. There was no easy answer, but at least kidney is functioning normally now.
Still feel weak, but drove home which felt good and bad. It was raining, so that was bad along with the wait to get out.
Thank You All for the well wishes and thoughts.
-
Glad you are home. There is no better feeling than your own home.
-
:bandance; There's no place like home - especially when you miss your cats!
Hope you can eat and build your strength back up!
:cuddle;
-
Oh Chris this is good news :cheer: Bet it feels good to be home, hope all will go well for you now.

:cuddle; welcome home :cuddle;
-
:2thumbsup; So glad you're out of the hospital.
-
I am so glad you are home Chris, although I am sure you will miss the hospital food >:D
-
Bet being home feels better than being in the hospital. :cuddle;
-
Next Saturday I go to my internal doc at my transplant center for follow up and probably more testing on the small intestines, bladder, and prostate. Tomorrow/Thursday I will pick up all my blood test done while being hospitalized (hopefully the PSA test was done), and request all X-Rays, CT Scans, and Ultrasound reports on CD. Which means more pictures to save to computer.
This hospital's food isn't bad compared to the many hospitals I've been to. We have a menu in each room with daily specials on fruit, soup, and lunch. We call down what ever we want according to the diet assigned at any time between 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Coffee though, still sucks!
Hopefully I get my normal sleep time back again.
-
I am glad your home Chirs. Get some rest and enjoy a nice cup of coffee. ;)
-
:yahoo; glad to see you back on the boards again! I hope you are feeling better. Sometimes even after being discharged from the hospital with all the poking and probing things arent any better than when a guy was admitted. i hope this is not the case for you! you were missed.
-
Chris, I am sooooo sorry I missed everything that has been going on with you. I have not been on IHD in quite a while. I'm glad they narrowed the issue down a bit, but I'm sorry you have to deal with it all. I am very familiar with the gallbladder issue from diabetes complications. I've been dealing with that since last November. No one has mentioned your pancreas though. Please tell me that is okay with that though!

Since they could only use my right hand for labs, it was infiltrated so many times, it still bothers me a little. Then they finally shut the IV off after I told them this is what has been done before (because I did not want another hand stick). Then some nazi/punish loving, pain inflicting person jabs me in my arm early one morning causing that to hurt and bruise big time. It never hurt befor to get stuck, but when the nitwit did, it hurt going in and coming out as if they went in at a bad angle.

Well I'm sure they didn't look at the pancreas, but blood sugars have been fine. I had b/s checked 3x a day and it's funny (well to me it is) that the nurses paniced when my blood sugars dropped to 75. Seems 2 doctors suspected my gall bladder prior to being admitted, but never said anything before. According o the CT Scan, there's nothing wrong with the gall bladder. So if this is true and the gastroparesis test was negative also, then what's causing the nausea and possible small intestine problem they found. That's why I am getting another opinion.

My CT scan didn't show anything either. I ended up needing a HIDA scan to determine the gallbladder problem. Ask about it.

So glad you are home Chris! I don't understand why they didn't do a central line on you. They did an iv on me and after one stick to get blood they figured out they were gonna have trouble so they put a central line in.... it hurt but only once for about 30 seconds!
Wishing you luck... !

Thank You Pelagia for your generous donation to the effort of my family and I making the trip to visit with Chris. I received it along with the card.

Actually glad they did not think of it. The last time that was tried was after my transplant. I have a bad artery on my right side where they put the inital central line, but when they had to put one back in due to that one coming out. When they put another one in, it was very very painfull on my left side. No pain meds, no nothing while I was in the hospital that time. It felt like he was going to strangle/chocke me/ just cut off my airway. They should have put me out! Hand is still a little sore, but getting better, just have bald spots on my arm from where they shaved my arm to put IV lines in. I can deal with my body pain, but not when someone is causing it on purpose.
That was nice of Peligia, I hope I can return the favor sometime.

The kindness of our members always amaze me. Pelagia, how very thoughtful to think of the expenses. I get very teary when I read how one member reaches out and helps another. Everything comes full circle. And now, Pelagia, I hope you are blessed in return for your loving gesture. You are an angel. :grouphug;
