Title: High Potasium post TX
Post by: Chris on May 12, 2009, 09:18:50 PM
I had my monthly labs drawn Monday and got a call fom the nirse today letting me know a couple levels where high and low. She only calls when something is not normal, but since the doctor wasn't in today, she didn't give much advice. I haven't changed my diet, but now my potassium is high and probably why I feel of. The only advice I got was to avoid potassium foods such as potatoes, but didn't tell me how else to lower it. I haven't dealt with high potassium in a long time and have forgotten what else can be done. Drink more fluids besides getting a script for that yucky kayexalate stuff?

Kayexelate (sp) works the best...even though it does taste like freshly mixed concrete.  How high was your potassium Chris?  I've had issues with it since TX and suspect that I always will have issues with it.  I just avoid potatoes, bananas, beans and other high potassium foods...seems to stay under control.  Good luck with it......now go slurp some concrete!

Make sure you are on a 1K bath if you have high potassium.

Wenchie, I do not know what my lab result number was/is. I played phone tag today with the doc and was told to pick up a prescription for the nasty stuff. I see the doc Friday though locally and will pick up my lab results from the hospital nearby that day to save gas. I just don't feel my normal self though.

Wallyz, I'm not on dialysis hence te subject and place of topic in the Transplant section.
