Title: CAPD to Cycler
Post by: KICKSTART on May 11, 2009, 08:17:17 AM
Has anyone who has changed over from CAPD to using a cycler noticed any changes to their dialysis results ? I have been doing CAPD for years but have recently gone over to using the night time cycler (which i love!) but i have just got my first set of results back and my actual dialysis isnt doing as well. It is only 3 weeks so is it early days yet ?

I like the cycler too but I haven't been feeling as well since I started.  I knew I was a low transporter when I started so it is very likely they will add a manual exchange.  I did my first adequacy test last week so maybe I'll have the results soon.

I would rather go back to manual than to continue feeling as I have.

Oh Becky im sorry to hear that.

I hope they can make you feel better.  If not it would be easy to go back to manuals right?  Although i know you have your hands full during the day.

They really need to invent a friggen pill already for us :waiting;..  Make it all so much easier :thumbup;

What happened to me was my BP began going under 100, so they took me off all BP meds, and my Kt/V went up just a tad.  Hope you can resolve the problem.

My bp is high ..very high and im a high transporter so ideal for the cycler , but my results are not coming back as good .. maybe just a bit of fiddling with my regime will do it !!

Sometimes I don't pull much off (but I always make up for it with the drain during the day) - my nurse said it takes time for your body to get used to it... Do you let any fluid dwell during the daytime?  I do 5 exchanges at night (1 and 45 min dwells) and then when I get off during the day, I let that one in my belly dwell for 3 to 4 hours and that takes care of the extra fluid.

Kickstart, how many cycles are you on and how long are your dwells?  I am on Baxter, 5 cycles plus extraneal during the day Dwells are about 1hr 15mins.
My kt/v came back less than what they would like, so I have upped fluid to 2500 per cycle and 1500 durling the day.  It is making a difference.  There are many things they can do for you.  Also, if you feel bloated, you can use the manual drain, or put on a 4.25.  I usually use 2 2.5's and a 1.5, but the  odd time I am bloated the 4.25 takes care of it.

Hi Red , yeah im on Baxter 5 cycles and an extraneal in during the day . Its the daytime dwell that causes the problems mostly ..by dinnertime i feel ready to do an exchange (thats if the night time drains have pulled enough off) Guess im going to have to do at least one manual during the day ,as i feel the extraneal is in for too long , although i know its designed for long dwells.
