ARMC DIALYSIS PATIENTS TEST POSITIVE FOR HEPATITIS C

ATLANTIC CITY--- AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center has confirmed that 15 patients who had received dialysis treatments at their City Campus location, have tested positive for Hepatitis C.
The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services also confirms that it is investigating the Hepatitis cases. A spokeswoman for the department said that AtlantiCare notified the state, after 'in-house' hospital tests indicated that 15 people who had received dialysis treatments had been infected by Hepatitis C.
The Department of Health said it has not been able to determine how the infections occurred.
Early Thursday evening, AtlantiCare released this statement: "During a surveillance initiative of outpatient chronic dialysis patients initiated by AtlantiCare, 15 patients dating back to 2005 tested positive for Hepatitis C. The Department of Health and Senior Services in collaboration with AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, the Atlantic County Health Department and the Atlantic City Health Department, is examining federal, state, regional and local data to determine possible sources. No sources have been identified to date."

Every time I hear this type of story I wonder how it happens. The clinics responsible for prolonging life may be contributing to ending it.
