Has anyone had a cat and a leather couch at the same time? I'm considering buying new living room furniture, but have the cat. She doesn't scratch the furniture - she uses her scratching boxes. But, she likes to run across the couch at lightning speed and slide down the back. I'm afraid her nails would puncture the couch? Anyone have experience on this?
I guess I probably need to wait until she's a little older and less wild...

My mum and dad had a cat for 20 years and 2 leather sofas during that time and never had a problem. Although the cat always jumped onto them and walked about he never damaged them. But don't cuss me if yours does :rofl;

My sister has leather furniture with a declawed cat - but he still has hind claws. She doesn't have any problems. Her kitty is pretty ancient, though, and not inclined to rush around much. Have you trained your kitty to tolerate nail clipping? Taking the sharp points off might help.

Water Bottle.
Only good when your around however.
Our cats seem to think im a scratching post...

Rose it will be all your fault if the cat messes up the leather couch! lol
Nail clipping my cat, jbeany? Well, let's see. When I went to pick up my cat after she was spayed, the vet tech said to the woman before me with her cat, "when you get home, just let her out and let her walk around like usual and maybe feed her in about 2 hours." Then she turned to me and said.. "Now, when YOU let THIS cat out of the carrier, you may want to run out of the room and close the door and give her a few hours to calm down before she sees you. She's one pretty pissed off cat!"
But I will try the nail clipping and see. It will be all you fault if she makes me bleed to dath. (Just kidding.)
I'll have to try the water bottle, Paul. I have shaken water at her from the sink a few times and she just blinks and keeps looking at me.
Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'll give her a few more months to calm down and get out of that "kitten" stage before I decide to buy anything.

when we taught in Killeen we had to have Putt-Putt declawed in order to get an apartment -
I always felt guilty about it
she had her back claws
and was still a Hell cat
she hated my twin sister and would always try to attack her ???
she lived to be 19 or 20
I would never have another cat declawed

Mibarra, you have to start gradually. Does kitty let you touch her feet? Start there, holding her and getting her used to having her paws touched. You have to press down to get the claws to stand out. Do this without clipping them for a while. Then do it while holding the clippers, then touch the clippers to her paw. It's best to work up to the actual clipping over a long period of time if you haven't been doing it since kitty was tiny.
Twirl, my sister and I look and sound alike enough to be twins. One of my cats hated her because when she walked in the house, he always thought it was me at first, and then he'd run up to her to be cuddled and realize when he got close to her that it wasn't really his "mom". Freaked him out every time.

lol I had something similar to this happen with my old kitty, Raja. Raja was very close to me and wouldn't let anyone else pet him or pick him up before I moved in with my husband. One day, my sister - who was similar in size and shape to me - picked up dear Raja from a deep sleep, cuddled him in her arms, and when he looked up and saw it wasn't me, he reached up and slashed her across the nose, jumped out of her arms, and ran off very offended. She didn't try to pick up Raja again!
JBeany, I'll give your suggestions a try. She usually has to be in just the right mood for me to touch her paws.

My Siamese and I have an argument every time I cut her claws, but she does let me do it. I hold her in my lap. She cries and hollers as only a siamese can. You would think I was killing her or she was getting ready to kill me! She stalks off mad as heck when I am done with the claw clips.
