Title: Our Flag
Post by: Ohio Buckeye on September 12, 2006, 06:29:04 PM
Yesterday, being the 5th anniversary of the attack on our country, we were asked
to hang the flag.  I was thinking about when I was in school and the flag was raised
at the beginning of the day and taken down by sunset.  It was taken down if it
rained to keep it dry.  It was never allowed to touch the ground.
Each day classes were started with saying the Pledge of
Allegiance and no one would have even considered not saying it, changing it or
leaving out Under God.  Nowdays, it is up day and night, rain or shine, and you can do
just about anything you want to to it and it is alright.  I don't know I was just
comparing the difference and it really saddens me.  How did it happen?  We need
a Bring Back Respect for Our Flag Campaign or something like that.  Just sharing my
thoughts this evening.

I agree with you.  It makes me sick to see rallies where immigrants are burning the American Flag.  And we sit by and let them.  I have a small flag hanging up outside and I admit I don't take it down at night, but I think it needs to stay up 24/7 as a reminder what conntry we live in.

Monday morning at opening circle time at school ( I have 4 yr olds) , we were talking about the flag and they had their first attempt at saying the pledge. (Private school and we are allowed to say the pledge and pray!). After, we talked more about the flag and I asked if anyone had a flag at their house. Many raised their hands and little Hanna replied " I do, I do --- the Hurricanes flag!"  Her father plays for the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey team! That is why I still drag myself to work - they always make me laugh! :D
