I am very lucky, I have knowen my partner for the better part of 10 years, we have been going out for almost 5 years and have been engaged for about 2 months. Paul suppots me in everything in my life and without him I think I would be worse than a fish out of water.
He can almoste set up a dialysis machine as quick as me. He rescues me when my BP drops, he cooks, he cleans and he still has time for a full time job and to work on his own business.
I have heard around this part of the world that partners are not always thta supportive of renal failure and dialysis. Am I one of the lucky ones? How do your better halves cope?

Does Paul have a brother about 45 years old? :)

Nope just 2 younger sisters

What a great source of support he is. I'm very happy for you. When are you getting married?
Nothing better than a good support system....... :clap;
-
Hopefully NZ summer next year. but no set date yet as Paul is trying to get his busines sorted forst.
-
That's exciting. When is NZ summer?

Ah, so you have some time. Very exciting time for you.

Make that 2 brothers...or a daddy. I wish I was in Love. It would make life better. sassy

Tell Paul he needs to come post here, especially in our Spouses section.

I will try but he would rather sit on a Linux website than a renal one :)

I am not yet on dialysis having my fistula in on 9th October after that my husband and me will go to Sydney which is 500km away from home to learn home hemo, they tell us it could take 3 months to learn, we are hoping to be quick learners as we will have to away from home til will get it right, so I think he is pretty bloody fantastic for all his support.
-
Good for you, Charee. Your hubby sounds like a wonderful man. Good luck with your training.
-
I will be honest and say my first year of Heamo was hard and I was still at school but with support you will be fine.
PS once you are trained you can come to nz for a holiday and use my machine and vice versa. I need an excuse to go ot Australia :clap;

;D ...Beachy (Pottsville Northern NSW) and myself (QLD) have been talking about just such an arrangement
for a while. I guess you'd have to get something 'official' arranged, so everyone was covered though, eh??
But since booking dx in clinics elsewhere (in Oz & U.K. at least) seems nigh-on impossible, "HHD-swap" would
be the way to go!!! :beer1;
-
As long as you are self care trained and able to handle yourself it would be a great way to actually have a holiday. Its so hard to go aways as you have to book units 6 months in advance (at least)

My boyfriend is like that and the reason I feel so lucky! Especially when my last one left when in the middle of our relationship I had to go back on dialsysis :(
It is nice to have someone there to add the added support.
