Pull tabs support dialysis group

The Yreka branch of PremierWest Bank was the big winner in the Siskiyou Dialysis Group’s aluminum can pull tab campaign, but participation at all seven local banking institutions “far exceeded expectations,” SDS advocate Linda Stone said Thursday.
Some 252 pounds of pull tabs were collected during the campaign, which ended Tuesday and was held in conjuntion with Kidney Awareness Month. The breakdown is as follows, with number of pounds collected in parentheses: PremierWest (76), Siskiyou Central Credit Union (61), Chase/Washington Mutual (37), U.S. Bank (35), Scott Valley Bank (28.5), Tri Counties Bank (13) and Bank of America (4).
“Although Chase/Washington Mutual and U.S. Bank led in the first three weeks of the campaign,” Stone stated, “PremierWest and SCCU came on strong in the end.”
At PremierWest, that late surge can be credited to the efforts of teller Bridgette Gaebelein.
“Bridgette was the cheerleader at our location,” bank Vice President and Branch Manager Shannon E. Salvestro said Thursday. “She was the driving force. She set out the buckets and put up the flyers and just worked hard at it.”
“We had a number of individuals asking where they might continue to drop off their aluminum cans to benefit dialysis patients,” Stone stated. “Fairchild Medical Center has graciously agreed to be a drop-off site. Those wishing to do so can take them in to the gift shop, where they will be accepted.
FMC Assistant Administrator Mike Madden confirmed Monday that the gift shop will be the location for future drop-off of the aluminum pull tabs.
“Once again, a big ‘Thank you’ to the community at large for making our campaign a huge success,” Stone stated, “and thank you to KSYC and the Siskiyou Daily News for their coverage of this event.”

AND.... how is this going to help dialysis patients?
There use to be a myth YEARS ago that a pull top would give a dialysis patient 1 minute of dialysis. I hope that BS story isn't going around again.
Are they going to turn in the cans and buy a pizza party? HA

They get cash for aluminum (276 pounds) but they don't mention how they will spend it.

my unit used to have bags of tabs and when more came in they acted like it was a problem as where to put them

AND how did they spend that money? Do they just put it into the general fund for salaries?
MEDICARE pays for dialysis! This fund raising bull-shit makes me mad. If it went for DVD players that would be fine. But, when it just disappears, that pisses me off.

I sent this article to my friend who lives in Redding and is a manager for Northern CA and drives to Yreka at least once a month to find out more....
