Title: It's The Little Things
Post by: joyfulmother on April 01, 2009, 01:44:13 PM
I tend to find myself complaining a lot but sometimes, things go right and I wanted to share.  I always have a hard time every month when they draw my blood.  My veins are small and it isn't unusual that they stick me at least 3 times to find something.  Today my nurse got me the first time she stuck me and I didn't even feel it AND there was plenty of blood flowing also.  It was a very good experience.  It's no big deal UNLESS you have to deal with the opposite!!

it is a big deal for blood sucking to go fine
I almost have no veins and it is a nightmare
why do they try so many times and then call the "good sticker"
I tell them my veins are non- existent-
go with the best person first
and save me stress and pain

I have the same problem with my vains. They tried putting in a port for access and that ended up with even more problems. So I feel you 100% you feel free to come let off some steam anytime you like.  I may just join you on this subject. GRRRRR!

I fussed enough and the Director has only about 4 techs sticking me and they stick where and how I want.  I used to just let them do their thing and enough IHD family members told me it's my body and so it is.

The last time my gp wanted blood, it took them almost 2 hours and 4 techs.  "It's faster to just do it here, then we'll get the results right away."  HA!

I agree G-Ma.  It is my body, I used to drive 45 mins across town to go to the one woman I knew would get me.  It sucked but then again, I needed my bloodwork done.  And people suck. Now I give them 2 trys and if they don't get it by the secound I ask for someone new.

I warn the lab people, and they always seem to want to try first.  I think it is a pride thing to stick a hard stick. Damn them their pride!  :Kit n Stik;

From the perspective of being a "sticker", alot of times it is a pride thing, but stick to your guns and insist on the site you prefer.  you are the one who knows your body the best.  After all, you are the only one who has been there on all of the blood draws.

I am the same, crappy veins that just roll away in fear of that needle. I have two good places only. I tell the techs and show them.. "here or here" only.

The blood flow often stops and I have been told before that it was my fault because I crossed my legs!   :banghead;
