Title: Hello All!
Post by: Fox_nc on September 10, 2006, 08:50:32 AM
My turn ....

Hello, my name is Sonja and I am a 28 year old with a 11 year old trasplant.  In July I found out that the tx was failing and I would soon be on dialysis again.  I started hunting around for some support and found this site.  Which is great by the way.  I had PD previously and will be starting it again soon.  I have surgery scheduled for Thursday to have the equipment installed, but then it will be several weeks before I can start to use it.  My function is slipping and I feel like poop on a stick, so  I called my doc yesterday and he had be pop into the emergency room for some labs.  I was admitted about 1 this morning and will have hemo by the morning.  I'm doing ok with it all, just gathering as much info as I can.  Alot has changed in the last decade and I need to have all the info I can.  This sudden switch to hemo has my husband a little scared, but I think he'll be ok.  It's only temp until the PD is ready to rolll. I was having some pain over my tx and the ultrasound they did this morning made it worse so I'm on a slight amount of pain medication right now.  So ... this may not be the best time to post, but I wanted to get my hello out there. I look forward to talking to you all.

 :thx;
Sonja

UPDATE:
The PD surgery I spoke about back in September was postponed while they tried to figure out why I was having pain.  But now, 3 months later is on again.  I'm scheduled now for the 22nd and nothing is going to stop it this time, or I might just loose it!

I see that so far   :2thumbsup; Everyone seems great!  I've had lots of questions answered without even having to post one.  Which is the greatest part. ... Knowing we're not alone.  I may still post some new questions this week though.  Seems like I will be in the hospital at least a week, and I'll have plenty of time to cruise around.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hi Fox.  So sorry about your transplant.  When I lost mine I just wanted to die with it.  But, I'm here and it isn't.  I hope you had a great 11 years.  You will like this site.  You can come and vent.  You are experiencing a "loss" and you have a right to be mad right now.

He he ... yes I do ... (the name)  My mother thought the "j' was the prettiest, but always said it Sonja

So far the hospital visit is going ok. Doc still doesn't know why I'm having pain over my tx, so today I had a CT to rule out an appy and saw an OB/GYN to rule out anything in that area.  The pain is really throwing them for a loop.  But with everything else ruled out I will get a perm-cath to start hemo tomorrow. I'll do a session Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Then I'll go ahead with the surgery Thursday to get my PD cath.

I am having a small issue getting use to 1500 ml a day.  How does anyone do it?  I feel like I should be a camel.  Last week it was drink as much as you can, at least 3500 ml a day and now I'm counting ice! ARGH!   I have a good staff tonight though.  It's right at Midnight and I'm NPO offically now until the procedure tomorrow (which may be as late as 5 pm), so they brought me a sandwich, an apple, jello, and 2 juices ... sweet, huh?  I'll let you all know how the procedure goes tomorrow.

I started the hemo on Monday with a perm-cath and will have the PD cath put in a couple of weeks.  Everything is flowing ok for now, but they are still debating taking out the tx b/c of the pain.  But if we do that, I would have to delay the PD for a while.  And since my entire course has changed somewhat I am digging around other areas of the site, and will be posting some questions.  I hope everyone will feed me their experiences and opinons.  They have all come in very handy this week and I don't see having ALL the info I will ever need in the next couple of days  ::)

oh I know ... and at this hospital they are very free with the pain killers.  I'm not use to it.  At my last one, you almost had to beg for them, and then they would keep you longer until you were off them.   So I'm not in pain, but I'm not going to take advantage either  :angel;

When I was in the hospital last with Peritonitis and needed painkillers when they put in my HD catheter in my chest and took out the PD cath I found it depended on the nurse on shift if you got your pain killers often or not.
