Title: Hoping not to feel alone anymore
Post by: WD on March 26, 2009, 04:22:54 AM
Hello out there.  I am a dialysis patient as of Aug. '08.  I am a 58 year old female 2nd grade school teacher trying to get back to teaching but not yet feeling strong enough.  Full of questions.  Found this website on a sleepless night looking for others like me.  A little overwhelmed by the numbers on this site.  Read the rules but uncertain of protocol.  Have I already said too much too soon?  Where and how is the best way to get started?  WD

WD don't worry, there is no limits on what you can say, as you navigate around the site you will learn that you are not alone. Post as often as you want and ask as many questions as you need. That is why we are here. Don't let the rules scare you, they will make more sense as time goes on and are in place to keep our forum orderly and readable to everyone.

Welcome to the Ihatedialysis.com family.

Welcome, WD!    :welcomesign;

You will find this site to be a great source of both information and support.  Look around and make yourself at home!  Oh, and there are several other teachers on the site with whom I am sure you will be able to relate.

I hope to see you posting often!

Welcome and nice to meet you. Like yourself I found the site in a desperate moment and was so glad to have found it. Like yourself I was quite overwhelmed reading the rules etc, but fortunately there are kind people about helping out when something does not go as it should. I can understand your bewilderment to find yourself in the situation of being chronically unwell and having to come to terms with it. This is the site where you find comfort, understanding and a chance ot come out of isolation. Good luck and good wishes from Kristina.

Welcome to our community, WD!!  You are definitely not alone anymore!  We are both contemporaries (I am 59) and colleagues (I taught High School up until 2007 when my appointment was not renewed because of my dialysis).  You have found the number one spot for information and support.  We consider ourselves a genuine family here, as you will soon find out.  :grouphug;
No, your intro was not too long.  Epoman, the founder of this site, loved a looooooooooooonnnnng intro!  We like to get to know you.
Keep reading and keep posting.

you are with friends
I have been on dialysis for four years
I taught junior high school while on the first two years of dialysis
and then it got to be too much
I hate dialysis because I cannot teach while on dialysis
I went MWF from about 4:00 until 8:30 or 9:00
we have alot of teachers on this site who still teach
Mlbarra has a transplant and she teaches
Kitkatz or here kitty, kitty, as I call her teaches and she does nocturnal dialysis and she is a character
I hate not teaching
you will be fine

first off let me say HI :waving;  Secound I was a little shocked by this site myself at first. And yeah I still feel a little new from time to time, and not sure what I should say. But you know what the best way to do it is to jump right in.  People here are wonderful.  This has become my number one website to come to.  You will feel so welcome once you get to know a few people.  We are all just one big family.

I like your comment about "have I said too much too soon"   I've been around a few weeks now and still have the feeling I'm doing that all the time.  I did put my foot in my mouth (or more accurately my keyboard) a couple of times, but there is always someone around to stand up for you when you goof.  I really think that this kidney failure stuff sucks.  (KFSS)  Does anyone understand all of the acronyms?

  You've found the best place to talk to others , scream if you want to or just hang out.  Lots of people are where you are or have been there and can give great advice.  Hope you stay in touch.

You are not alone! Lots of love here!  Some of the teachers in my area job share.  That may be an option for you. Do some research and find 5-10 schools that you would like to work at and send emails to the teachers to see if any would be interested in job sharing.  I was working full-time, 60 hours a week at IBM when I had my 3rd daughter and someone approached me with the idea of job sharing and I cut my hours to 20-24 hours a week for the next four years!  It was the best thing I ever did. Many people want to retain their professional careers, but cut back on hours for various reasons. Go for it!

I am relatively new here also.  My youngest daughter started dialysis 15 months ago and I wish I would have found this site sooner.  Great information and super support!  :cuddle;

Well, you're definitely NOT alone and I hope you'll feel seriously free to say as much as you'd like or need to.  That's why we're here and truth is, the more you say the more quickly we get to know you.  You might regret it when one of us says too much back but by then hopefully you'll also know how to tell us we stepped on your toes.  :cuddle;
