I everyone! My name is Dave and I just joined the forum. Believe it or not I am a salesman that is not very good at introducing himself, I am more one of listen to you type. I am only 27, my kidney trouble came out of the blue when I was 21. It september and I had been getting some really bad headaches, I put it off for a little while because heck I'm 21, I'm invincable!!! So I thought. A couple weeks had passed and I was still getting these headaches, so I finally went to the doc. My bp was 220 over I don't remember. So they gave me some meds and did some lab work. Two days later they sent me to the hospital because my kidneys were failing. I was able to get a little more than a year out of them but that follow dec I had to start dialysis.
I was able to find a living donor for a transplant, and had a transplant that following march. But it wasn't long after my body started rejecting it but was able to get about three years out of it.
I had to start dailysis again in feb of 2008 and they are working with the Mayo to see if there was/is anything we can do to get a better transplant this time. I was doing home hemo, 3 hours a night 5 times a week (I'm a big guy!) but we (my fiancee and I) didn't like that because it took all of our spare time. We would come home from work and start setting up the machine. So I convinced the clinic to let me go to nocturnal. The trouble I had with that is that I could not sleep very long. I keep doing it for about 4 monts, getting about 2 hours of sleep everyother night, but it was killing me. So about a month ago I went back to in clinic 3 times a week
I was working for a medical staffing company, but with the economy like it is, they were not willing to work with me. So when I went back to incenter they told me I needed to get a FMLA with exactly what hours I could work. Then they said they would reduce my pay hours by those hours, which I thought was completely understandable. Then they told me they would not reduce my goals and I would be expected to produce the same as everyone else. THEN to top it all off they said if I stayed late to make up they hours they would NOT pay me for them!! So now I am looking at disability.
Wow I wrote a book here, if I left anything out let me know!!

Hi Dave. :waving; It's nice to meet you. I, too, hope you find another kidney soon.
What caused the rejection? What anti-rejection meds were you on with your first transplant? I just transplanted with a live donor in Nov. I'm on Prograf and CellCept. And Prednisone, of course, but hoping to be off that totally by the end of the year.

Hi, Dave, and welcome to the group. I remember being in my 20s and feeling so invincible that I refused treatment for my high blood pressure. Well, 40 some years later, here I am on dialysis. Who knew?

:welcomesign; Dave,
I hope that you get a new kidney soon! Sorry that you are having a hard time sleeping....Having your blood recycled 20+ times a week is exhausting. I know that there are some great threads here on sleeping problems.....Maybe you will find some information that will help you!
This is a very supportive and entertaining group. I am glad you joined us! :grouphug;

Welcome to our community, Dave! No, your intro was not too long. The founder of this site, Epoman, loved long intros. You would get an A! I totally understand your job frustrations. I was on dialysis for two years from 2005 to 2007. When my appointment came up for renewal ( I was a high school teacher without tenure - the contract was renewable every two years) they did not renew in spite of my excellent evaluations.
This is an excellent site for information, support, a place to rant, vent, rage or rave - even a place for fun. We are a genuine family here :grouphug; as you will find out if you hang around.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
