Hi nocturnal people :)  I would love to see some pictures of your arm taped at night, and the supplies that you have to find space for!

I was given pics from Del, but I cant seem to find them!

Thanks!

Thanks Del, now whne he has them taped like that there has never been any mishaps and the needles get pulled or anything like that?  Its so hard for me to believe that you don't yank the needles out when you are sleeping, does he ever roll over?

He rolls over and has his arm all over the place and in 2 1/2 years never any mishaps or coming loose.

In the last picture where you see tape around the lines on his wrist he now uses one of those rubber arm bands like the ones you get for kidney failure or cancer. It is much more comfortable than the tape.  It is loose and doesn't feel tight on the arm at all. He just puts it on his wrist before we start the needles and then just have to pull it over the lines.  The one he is using now is bright orange!!!

Hi Kimcanada, I am sorrry I don't have any pictures, but I use very little tape, but the way I do it with an upper arm fistula on my left arm (the side I sleep on)I have never had a problem.  And I quite often end up sleeping on that arm!!  Without any trouble.  But one my lines are taped the hospiatl gave me a box of that mesh that you would put over a burn or incision on your arm or leg, but that stuff holds everything in place.  I toss and turn all night and when I finish my treatment in the morning, my needle is still all the way in.  The hospital also gave me a sensor that is for kids that wet the bed, but as soon as it get even a tiny bit wet it goes off and it is loud!!!  So that if by chance the needle did come out you would know very very quickly.  Same as  the sound of the machine, now I sleep like shit on my nights off because I am so used to it.  As for my supplies, Everything is taken to my basement and then I just bring up a 6 day supply one a week, with the help of the kids, and we have a walk in closet so I just put the jugs in there right out of the way.  Please ffeel free to pm and ask any question you have at all, because I was totally against going on nocturnal, now I wouldn't have it any other way.

JAy

I just noticed on Del's pics, the bleu line you see coming out from under the tape, that is the same sensor I have for a potential blood leak, and by the way, I am on single needle, and I use a total of 3 pieces of tape, 2 over the needle and one higher up because I loop my lines on my upper bicep.  Iwill get my wife to take some pictures and hopefully they will help.

They gave hubby the mesh stuff at the hospital as well but he couldn't use it. His arm would actually get wet with sweat!!!  We find the taping works fine.  The alarms are great. Hubby had to start putting a folded 2x2 underneath the sensor because even a tiny bit of sweat on his arm would set it off.  That's how sensitive it it.  We also have moisture detectors that go on the floor by the dialysis machine, one next to the ro, and one where the water lines and drain are in the bedroom wall. They are loud too and alarm with the slightest bit of moisture.
