Dear Members,
Want to post a picture of yourself in our "I Hate Dialysis Family Album"? located here: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1227.0 Or maybe you want to post an image in another thread.
If you do not know how to or do not have a program that resizes the pictures for you. Well I have a very simple solution. Download this VERY small and extremely simple to use program for Windows users, it is called "Power Toy Image Resizer" and when I need a quick image resized it's all I use. It's FREE and very easy to install. Here is the link directly to the install file:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe
As I said this program is for Windows user and Windows XP, which by my web stats that is 95% of the users here. And the program is FREE and could not be easier to use. I will even walk you through the steps involved.
So after you download that install file and install it you are all ready to start resizing pictures.
So find a picture(s) you wish to share and follow these steps:
First Step:
(http://ihatedialysis.com/images/imageresize1.jpg)
Second Step:
(http://ihatedialysis.com/images/imageresize2.jpg)
Third Step:
(http://ihatedialysis.com/images/imageresize3.jpg)
Fourth Step:
(http://ihatedialysis.com/images/imageresize4.jpg)
Fifth Step: Go to the "Family Album" Thread or any thread where you wish to add an image.
(http://ihatedialysis.com/images/imageresize5.jpg)
Well that's it, sounds easy right? Well it is and I hope you give it a try.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask here and I will answer questions you may have. This program really is easy to use even if you have no photo editing experience, it is fully automated and best of all FREE and all you have to do is "right click" the file you wish to "shrink" It is so nice to put "faces" with members names it makes us a closer community and that is my goal. So be sure to head over to our "Family Album" and post a picture today. :)
P.S.
This is the only program ihatedialysis.com endorses, because I know it is free from all SPYWARE and ADWARE, so please do not post any programs you may use as an alternative. If you wish to recommend a FREE program for members, send me a PM and I will try it out and scan the "install" file for any traces of SPYWARE and if it is a good FREE program I will add it here as another option.

Wow! Great post Epoman! I have just been using an OLD version of Paint Shop Pro for years (version 5) because I don't have the money for a better program and hate learning all over again new programs when I know this one so well, but this is perfect! What a great idea! And wonderful tutorial! Thanks Epoman!

That is great stuff there Epoman. Good thinking. I personally use Adobe Photoshop 5 or 7.

Well yeah, for my fine photo editing I use Adobe Photoshop which can't be beat IMO, but this little program serves its purpose well and you can't beat the price. :P
Glad you enjoy it too "sluff", "kitkatz", and "Angie".
For your information guys that is just ONE of the tools that are called "Power Toys" there are other little useful programs check them out here:

I know for a fact that most of them will run even on a non valid copy of winXP because they are full installers, not front end installers that check for that sort of thing. ;)

I tried the program in the link provided even though I asked not to post any links in this thread and to first PM me the link and I will try it out and see if it works and If I am willing to endorse it. But anyway I tried the program and I believe it is only for GIF's here is the error I got when I tried to upload a .jpg file. Most people use .jpgs, am I doing something wrong can it accept jpg files?
Your image could not be loaded. GIFWorks currently accepts only images that are saved in the GIF (.gif) format.
There is also a 400k image size limit. Please try again.
To all members, if wish to see a program listed here please PM me first before posting a link. Thanks.

ahh, may be a small problem there eh :D I had used it like you say for gif but not jpegs as far as I can remember. I'll check it out and let you know what I can find, I have used web based resizers before but I'll have to dig around for the links first.

Thanks a web-based resizer would be great! Thanks for helping out. :beer1;

Do Macs and Linux have the same type of MSPaint program that Windows does? Anyone can use that simple little program to resize .. as long as they keep it as a Jpg and not save it as a gif then it won't change the quality neither as far as I know (I don't use MSPaint as I have a nicer art program I use however lol).
-
Do Macs and Linux have the same type of MSPaint program that Windows does?
The answer to that is no. MSPaint is a product of windows and there-for, is only available in windows. Linux does not come with an very useful art editing program because it is not a practical, home user type of operating system. But you can get one for Linux. Macs have their own software for editing images but it does not resemble MSPaint.

Thanks to "Mike" here is a link to a ONLINE photo editor and this handles .jpegs Check it out and tell me if you guys like it. Here is the link:

I do not endorse this online program yet however I think it has potential. Give it a try and tell me what you think. This will work for ANY computer that has internet access regardless of operating system or computer type. It has MANY options and does not require ANY installation.
Let me know what you think.

I have a question.... when posting pictures, how do you add tet IN BETWEEN the pictures?

I don't think you can.
-
I have seen people do it... lol, I am looking back over everyone's posts cause I just seen it done within the last week or so... grr, I guess soon as I find it I shall ask that person who did it :lol;
-

Good question. I didn't think it was possible using the upload tool here. Might only be possible if it's a link to a photo sharing site, but we discourage links in favor of direct uploads.
-
I give up. I can't find it. :lol; Maybe I was seeing things. :urcrazy; ;)

I don't know if I've added text between pics here but I've done it on other forums.
I have been unable to get any of the programs for resizing listed here to work for me. They appear to work and the pics wind up in the new folder I put the ones I'd like upload but they are always too big and the staff members have to resize them for me! Now, I've never been one who likes to make more work for others but...I don't know a whole lot abt resizing pics! I've got a couple of a wild fire in my mom's hometown Western MT I wanna share. The fire was in August 2000 and it was huge and threatened the small town!
Help!

What happens when you open the folder with the pictures? You should be able to right click to resize to the small size 640x480 then save it, scroll down and the name of your picture with (small) under it should appear. Just click on it and it should show up in your dialogue box hit OK and it should be on the site.

Thanks, I'll try it again but I think it's probably the laptop and not the program. I'm having trouble with copy & paste also. Hubby's gonna look at it when he gets time, probably tomorrow!

Thought we need a refresher for some new people and other members on "How To Resize Photos". :pics;
:bump; :bump;
-
However for people with a Mac or Imac this will not work. I use the iphoto iresizer. It is a free download and easy to use.
-
www.pixenate.com works great for my mac, you can adjust the colors, exposure, resize and crop!
-
What I have discovered so far with Vista is that PowerToys photo resizer will not work with Vista and there are many complaints about that on Microsofts tech forum. It was simple and quick to use. Yes there are other programs out there, but your old software may not work with Vista when you have to switch.
There is a similar program to PowerToys posted on the Microsoft tech forum that I will try first before posting the link. It is reported to work exactly like PowerToys did.
With newer OS systems coming out, we need to keep this thread updated.
No idea about Apples new OSX Lepoard system, so try Okarols link above.

Here is one of Microsoft's solutions to resizing a photo. Not the fastest and easiest method though, but may help some.
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/f6a5acf9-8661-4f2a-b5f2-9680772e02601033.mspx
Some post on Microsoft's forum about what others use to resize on Vista http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaapps/thread/9adf8d62-b219-4a85-921b-eceeec1d7e71/# There are 2 programs others have suggested. I chose the later due to the right click ability to resize on each photo, not a group of photos.
The one I am using now that is working more like old PowerToy resizer, but with more options due to Vista way of dispaying (on Page 3 from above link of Microsoft). Still very simple and allows you to choose how to save the new picture. Besure to read and look at the How to on the link below.

I used the Windows Live Photo Gallery to do it. At least I hope it worked. lol
