I have an offer of a kidney from a good friend (obviously, anyone who would donate has to be good, no?)
Anyhow, he is blood type O and I am A. I know that O can give to an A, but will they allow this in a live donation, or do they insist we be the same blood type?

Here in Australia o can give to any blood type as long as they pass all the other tests and the cross match. My sister is o and i'am b+ and she was able to donate to me . Good luck

Our transplant hospital would allow this arrangement - O donating to A - but even if you're not a match, if you've got an O donor and they are willing to donate to someone else, you're in a great position for a swap or chain.

There should be no problem with O giving to A. I'm B and just received a kidney from my sister-in-law who is O. So far so good.
