My catheter was put in yesterday. It was done in Outpatient Surgery. Everything went well, I came home with no problems and then after being home about 2 hours I started having hurting in my abdominal area. It was horrible. I don't know why I thought there would be no pain. I guess I was still under the influence of the anesthesia. So I took pain pills about every 4 hrs during the night.
This morning I feel much better. The catheter is much smaller than I had anticipated. From the beginning I had envisioned a large tube hanging from my body with a big faucet to turn it on and off :'(
It was really hard for me to accept the idea of this "thing" hanging out of me. I am starting to feel OK I guess. I may have a different story tomorrow ;D.
I was very happy to hear my Neph. say that I will start PD when I am ready. I was under the impression that I HAD to start after the catheter was healed. I learned from this group that I don't have to start because he said so. :cheer:
I am so glad that I found you all. :yahoo;

:2thumbsup; :clap;
Good for you Betty. I hope the pain totally leaves you SOON.
I will be getting my fistula myself in the next month or so. Then i will get my PD access.
Getting the fistula as a backup :thumbup;.
And my neph from the beginning has told me that he wont tell me when to start that i should be able to tell him when im ready.
Im grateful i have/fad the time to decide and not have to be rushed into dialysis.
may your journey be smooth

Betty, glad the surgery went well. The part of the catheter is what comes out of your body. There is another part that hooks on to that, that you will do your fills and drains from.

Hi Betty,
Glad your surgery went well. As the days go by, it will get easier. Feel free to ask questions about PD.
Best wishes,
