As I was writing a reply in the post concerning our earliest memories, I mentioned concerning my sister's autograph book. That brought back a whole set of memories about something that the young people nowadays probably know nothing about.
Do you guys remember those rectangular books that every self-respecting teenage girl had to have? And the stuff your friends used to write in them? I am so sorry that i never kept mine.
Post the autograph book rhymes that you remember. (please make them bold)
What, write in a book where gentlemen look?
Not I!
Too shy!
Goodbye!!
[do they still have autograph books???]

Wow, I remember those books, but
I cannot for the life of me remember any
of the silly little poems and rymes we used
to use!
Everybody had to have one of those, way back then!

"There's old ships and new ships, but there's no ship like friendship."
"If wisdom's ways you wisely seek,
Five things observe with care;
To whom you speak,
Of whom you speak,
and how,
and when,
and where."

i remember those, i think i had one, but what i do remember having was a stuffed penguin, you wrote on his tummy.

While I never had one myself, I still have my mother's autograph book. She had entered a contest to see how many politician signatures she could get (think 1930s), and she had tons of them. Bet it's worth something now!

I had a friend who turned the book upside down and wrote:
Remember the ocean
Remember the brook
Remember the friend
Who wrote upside down
And ruined your book!

On the back cover, in the farthest corner - "By hook or by crook, I'll be the last to write in your book."

Love is like a ton of coal sliding down the cellar,
Gets you in an awful fix if Ma don't like your feller.
When you get married and have twins
Don't come to me for safety pins
YYUR (too wise you are)
YYUB (too wise you eb)
ICUR ( I see you are)
YY4me (too wise for me)

I remember that one!
We would fold a page in and write on it - No Boys Allowed!
Then inside would be this -
You naughty boy!
You had to look
Now you must kiss
The owner of this book!
