Okay well I went to dialysis all last week, and there were a couple people there with colds and such.. well this week, I am sick ! I am not saying for sure that I got sick from those people, but my point is this. IF you're contagious, don't come to dialysis! People are already susceptible enough and if you're sitting there hacking out a lung, well that's just nasty and in a way rude. My mom who has Cancer is now sick as well so this is why I am worried. I mean I thought the sunflower seed lady was bad enough but not anymore :Kit n Stik;

karen even if you are sick you still need the dialysis treatment!! If you are sick though and have to go to dialysis you should at least cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Hubby went to center for 6 years. He never missed a treatment no matter how sick he was. He would have been a lot sicker if he had skipped his treatment.

I agree del, dialysis trumps a cold. Wouldn't it be nice though if people who were sick would wear a mask for that time. I have turned into a complete germaphobe since transplant and luckily for me..all of my family and co-workers are very considerate of that. I have missed more visits with my grandchildren this winter because of all those kid things...colds, stomach viruses...even chickenpox. LOL! We all need to do what it takes to stay healthy.

Always remember that you can ask for a mask to wear to protect yourself Karen. We have no choice but to do dialysis even if sick. Staff are a different matter and I've asked nurses with colds to please put on a mask if needing to attend to me for any reason.

At my center, the staff will wear a mask when they feel a cold coming on.

Most of mine do too Zach, it's only very occasionally an issue.

I have a cold and have been to dialysis all week. But then I think this where I caught the bug.

I don't have a problem with fellow dialysis patients who come for treatment when they are sick. I DO have a problem with family and friends of patients who are sick and come not just to the waiting room, but also often come into the treatment area. I have complained about this to the staff and it has fallen on deaf ears.

I have a problem with the sick techs- they wear a mask to protect themselves from my blood but when they come around and I am not being placed on or taken off - they do not wear a mask ---- cough, cough and complain to me about how sick they are-----
patients should be more considerate of other patients and cover their coughs
Karen -- I hope you and your mom get better soon------- how is the new eating plan going
