Title: Question for living donors
Post by: monrein on February 20, 2009, 07:21:44 AM
My donor, Kathy, has been wondering about what donors ate the night before surgery.  She's thinking something very light, like soup, but we thought we'd post here to see what others did.  Thanks in advance.

Michael and Stephen were in the hospital the night before the transplant.  They had hospital food for dinner.  Meatloaf??  Yum...

Given the fact that your intestinal systems are going to shut down for a few days after the surgery (intestinal systems are very finicky), I would bet most recommendations are for eating light.

My donor and I both admitted around noon on a Tuesday.  We were told to have a good breakfast.  Once we admitted, my donor was on a clear diet (broth, yellow jello and water) for lunch and dinner.  She also had to have two enemas.

I had a nice turkey and dressing lunch and a lighter dinner.
