Well my dad was set to get his fistula put in tomarrow. My dad went in yesterday for some blood work for his doc appt this morning. And well his kidneys are gone for good. So they are admiting him and while they are puting in his fistula tomarrow they are going to add a catheater in his chest for the mean time. :'( So they start dialysis tomarrow. I feel so bad, we all thought he had a little more time. We didn't think we had that much, and we all knew it was comming. But this just all came to fast. And no matter how much you think your prepared your not.

The same thing happened to Jenna - they thought she had 2months to go and 3 days later she had a emergency tunneled catheter installed. I am sorry for you because I know it's scary, but he should be feeling better after he gets treatment. Sending you and your family BIG HUGS! :grouphug;

WOW! Sorry the hear that your dad was having trouble. But, I am sure that he will feel so much better once he gets starts on the treatment.

Sorry to hear his kidneys went so fast. I hope he does well, good luck to all of you :grouphug;

:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug; and more if you need them

I'm sorry he's having to go through this at all. Good Luck. I hope the procedure, and dialysis, go well. :cuddle;

Sorry to hear this Manda.
How is your Father taking it all?
-
I'm sorry to hear that the CKD overtook your dad's treatment. But yes, it can deteriorate that fast.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 CKD in August. By the time they finished running all their medical tests, one month later, it had already deteriorated to Stage 5 (ESRD), and I too had to have the catheter put in.

Sorry it went so fast but I hope that he can now get to the point where he feels better. :grouphug;

Hang in there - the first month is kind of bumpy ride, but it does get better!
-
Sheeeesh.... from the title I thought he was dead!
I'm sure things will go well. They put in my fistula and said I had time and then a week later put in the cathater! That is worse. I would have rather had it done all at once.
Glad he is alive!!! :cuddle;

I thought the same! DIalysis in any case will help him hopefully start to feel better. I had to do it that way too, and I pray he does well with both accesses.

:cuddle; I'm very sorry to hear this. The exact same thing happened to me just last month. I was scheduled for a fistula, but a few days before surgery, my labs came back and my function had dropped from 17% to 9%. So my surgeon placed my chest cath during the fistula (turned out to be a graft tho) surgery, and 4 days later, I started dialysis. It happens more often than yo think, and it's not the end of the world. It's the beginning of a new one. One where he feels better! :cuddle;

Thanks everyone, they took him in first thing this morning and he is alright. He is taking it really hard. I have seen my father cry only a few times in my life, I could probly count on one hand, and yesterday he cired. So that was hard. That more then the rest was hard. But yeah thanks everyone.

Like some of the others, I was fearing the worse when I read the title!! i suppose that happened to lots of us. I was to have a graft, but then my kidney function fell so low, I had to have a catheter put in and start right away. Soon he will get accustomed to it, and start feeling much better (though not right away!)

It will be an adjustment but like the others have said, he will soon be feeling better. :grouphug;
