I need some advice,
I`m going to be investing in a laptop soon to take with me to dialysis. I`m looking at various manufacturers and DELL is one of them. Can anyone tell me:
1) Are DELL any good?
2) What is their aftersales service like?
3) I`ve heard DELL laptops overheat. Is this true?
4) Are they value for money?

Some of the deals Dell offers just can't be beat.
1)YES
2)India tech support mostly
3)Not more than any others
4)The best value IMO

Alienware is a really good gaming brand computer, but the new Dell XPS systems are right up there in my opinion. Either way though a gaming computer is gonna cost you some big bucks if you want to tweak it out.
Other than that I agree with Epoman, you can get a really decent multi-purpose laptop for a good price if you can catch the right sales.

Don't know about Dell, but just thought I'd chime in with a recommendation for Acer laptops. I have an Acer Aspire 5670, and I really like it.

I have heard a lot of good things about Dell, but my hardware died after a year. :-\ Not sure if I'd get another one...

I had an Acer laptop recently and I was not very happy with it and I will tell you why. Acer simply does not offer upgrade parts for their laptops such as hi-cap batteries or even larger hard drives. You get the base system you paid for and that's it.
Dell has some decent laptops but I would steer clear from their budget systems. I would recommend one of their higher end systems.
I have a HP Pavilion ZX5078ci (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=389767&lang=en&docname=c00059853) laptop which I feel was not bad for the money.
Sony and Toshiba also make very good laptops but good quality costs good money.

Totally depends on what you're using it for. Yeah Dell are cheap as hell, and ok if you're just using it for browsing the web or whatever. I bought an iBook G4 which i use for animation/illustration editing and whatching dvds. I generally think Apple produce better hardware and software. It never ever breaks down/overheats runs smoothley without error evertime. It's a little more money but well worth it.
