Hi Epoman: I read your training story on the NXstage machine since I am thinking of going that way. The one thing I noticed that you did not mention is the possibility of infection. When I was on peritoneal I was infected almost every month to the extent I had to go back on hemo. I HATE hemo. The NXstage system looks like a life saver but I worry about infection. Is there any need to worry?

So is there more of an infection risk in Peritoneal than with Hemo? I have been wondering this with my father switching soon to Peritoneal soon(maybe)..........Thanks once again.

Hi TrophyWife, I am on PD and i have had peritonitis once due to constipation, but i really think it is up to the individual and how they treat themselves. There is alot of washing of the hands, use of face masks, hand sanitizers during the set up, i think as long as you follow all the cleaning and sanitizing techniques, you will be fine... Good Luck to you and your dad...

Agree with Goofynina. Be consistently clean, watch your technique, don't cut corners and take your time.
