Title: rejection question

Hello,
     What are the signs and/or symptoms of rejection or a rejection episode?  I have been having pain in my incision area which here lately i have been doing  a little bit of heavy lifting . My bp is not elevated  and i have been feeling tired lately..I have appointment with my DR on Wednesday, just wondering what my be going on,if anything.  Thanks chris

My Tx Surgeon told me to watch for a fever over 38c, elevated bp, tenderness at the transplant site, vomiting or any combination of the above. 

Sounds like you may have overdone it with the lifting.  Watch that temp...she says a temp over 38c (100.5 F) requires an immediate call to the clinic from me.

Hoping its just overwork!

Our dialysis clinic told my husband to call anytime he felt "not quite right."  It's in your clinic's best interest to keep you healthy.   If you aren't sure about something, maybe you should call them.  Maybe it's just the incision getting sore, but wouldn't it feel better to have them tell you not to worry?

Chris, when I was at about 10-12 weeks post-op I was walking on my treadmill and decided to increase the incline to 3 and walk slower.  I had no problems while on the treadmill, but the next day I started to have some pain in the new kidney area.  It would be a sharp pain when I moved around or laughed, and sometimes just out of the blue.  I didn't associated it to the walking at an incline right away, but I started taking my BP and temp again and they were always normal.  I called my clinic and the first question they had was "Do you have a temp?".  Apparently, that's a big indicator.  When I thought about the walking we all agreed that I had probably strained something (muscle) due to the incline.  I stayed horizontal for the next day and just relaxed and the following day the pain was gone.

My book lists Signs and Symptoms of Rejection as:

Fever over 101 F
Flu-like symptoms:  chills, aches, tiredness, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting
Pain or tenderness around the new transplant
Fluid retention or sudden weight gain of 4 to 5 lbs over a day
Pain or burning when you pass your urine
Bloody, dark colored, or foul smelling urine
Making less urine than usual
Sudden rise in blood pressure

NOTE:  Signs and Symptoms of infection and rejection are almost the same.

You may not feel any signs and symptoms of rejection.

With it being just the pain I would be willing to bet it's the heavy lifting.  Good Luck.  Keep us posted!

hello,
    Got my lab results today everthing was in range.....i feel lot better now...just  be too cautious i guess......was told no more heavy lifting easy for to get a hernia..thanks for all replies..Chris ..you all are great!!!
