Warning - these photos show surgery, open incision, removal of a kidney - DO NOT OPEN IF YOU ARE SQEAMISH!
I came across this series of photos from 2005 - it appears to be an "open incision" nephrectomy which is a BIG inscision - not like the less invasive laproscopic method used more often - but still used by some centers.
I cannot read the text so if someone can translate it would be great. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rachelrj/sets/1635065/

My donor was told that they were going to take her left kidney and go in laptrascopic But due to her gastric bypass a couple of years ago, if they got in there and there was scar tissue then they would have to take her right kidney and therefore remove a rib. I'm so thankful they were able to take the left. That looks like it would take so much longer to recover.
Thanks Okarol. Great photos!

Some of those pictures are great while others were to fuzzy. I like surgery photos. I asked my transplant doc if they had photos of a kidney and pancreas transplant and they didn't. They didn't even know where to get some and they're a teaching hospital ??? :o >:(
Forgot where I was where you could enter text and it would be translated. Stuff I run across I need to keep track of better.

I don't know how to add a link, so if you opened this thread, you must want to see photos... One of "me and pee" other is actual kidney after they cleaned it.

Hi Traci - I resized this photo of the kidney - there was only one photo shown - just so you know.
-
I sent her a resized photo to post, but you beat her to it in editting.
I forgot what the size limit is though. I know it was posted somewhere other than what it says when you decide to insert image (Maximum attachment size allowed: 1024 KB), but usually when resizing it goes by 000 X 000 amount.

800X600 is the preferd size.
-
Thought it was that and that's what I told Traci. When sh asked me and I wrote back, I said I thought it was 600 X 800.
Can't wait for more pictures.

Your kidney looks huge! Nice and plump! I'm so happy for you Traci! :clap;
