Title: well water

Hi everybody!
I haven't been on here in a long time. I hope you're all doing well!
I have a quick question:   anyone here on home nocturnal on a well? My husband and I are looking to buy a little hobby farm so I can move my horse (Carson) home with us but we don't know if the well will handle the machine or if the water will be good enough for dialyzing.  So, opinions will be appreciated!!

Hi carson, you should be able to take a water sample to your clinic or the local health department to have the water tested and your clinic should be able to tell you if the water is safe to use. I don't know what machine you use but we had the old Fresenius 2008H and it used a lot of water. I would not of been comfortable on a well with it. Hope you get it figured out. Take the sample to the clinic.  It will be tested for everything.  Dialysis quality water is different from city water tests.  I would be really leary about well water, but depending on the machine and the quality of the water, it's not ruled out entirely.  Good Luck.

I'm on short daily at home on a NxStage.  I have well water, and have no problems with it. I do dialysate cultures once a month, and have passed every test.  Well water has its advantages, too - no chlorine, so no risk of problems from chloramines.  (Although I still have to run the chloramine check on every batch - just because of the clinic protocol!)
