Title: Introduction
Post by: JeffKinzer on January 29, 2009, 01:26:34 PM
Just a short shout out to everyone.  My name is Jeff, I am 43, and a PKD patient.  Have been on dialysis since 07/22/2005, been on the transplant list at 2 centers for 3 years 1 month now, and boy am I ready for a transplant.

Been married nearly 25 years, have 3 children (16,13,10).

Was using a fistula till last August, and it clotted off (kept having alergic reactions during my fistulagrams).  Had a cathetar placed in my chest.  Two weeks ago, I had another fistula put in my arm, hopefully I'll get a transplant before I have to use it!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Its nice to find a community of people who are famiiliar and understand everything I am going through in life.

I still work fulltime, I have an employer who is very flexible about allowing me to work my hours flexible.  Plus my clinic has wireless internet, so I can just link into my work desktop and work while on dialysis.

My wife has been my strength through all this.   She's wanted to give me one of her kidneys since the beginning but for the first 2 years, I resisted the idea, as our kids were too young, and I didnt feel comfortable us both being in the operating room.  With everything Ive went through this last year, I've reconsider, had her check, and miracously she is a match for me, however, she is on 1 blood pressure medicine, that also has a diuretic (sp) in it, and my center won't allow it.  So she is working on getting in better shape, so she can drop the meds (as she hasn't always been on BP medicine)

My biggest gripe about dialysis has been the particular machine we use, if they don't do an extra cleaning cycle, my face heats up and flushes and I feel horrible for the first 30 minutes of dialysis.  But otherwise its pretty normal, though with a cathetar my ktv isnt as good as it was, so they've had to increase my time.

Looking forward to becoming an active member in the community.

Welcome to our community, Jeff!  Great to have you with us.  This is just the place for you to be.  It happens that we started dialysis within two months of each other.  I found this website just before I went on dialysis and have been very grateful for the information and support that it has been to me.  this is more than just a website - it is a family  :grouphug; with all that means.  Please take advantage of all this site has to offer.  I pray that things work out well for your transplant.  You will be able to join the growing list of our members who have had transplants.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hey Jeff,

I dont want to be a buzzkill :(
But i want to pass this along in case you dont know it.  But you very well may.
PKD which i also have is generally a heredity disease that is/can be passed on to your children.
For this reason i have two brothers who both have young children.  They want to try to see if they are a match for me but i wont let them.  For the fact that there children may need that kidney in the future.
Please dont take this wrong it would be wonderful for your wife to give you a kidney.
I just want you to know the heredity part in case you were unaware.

Thanks for the info, but I was aware of it already.   Has struck my family 4 generations in a row now.  All only children.  Whats the odds?

But still thanks for bringiing it up.
