Well my dad had the house inspected last night and there are a few issues. A new furnace is needed and there are a few electrical issues, and some mold. My parents are hoping that they don't come back saying they will lower the asking price because that still doesn't fix anything. Hopefully the owners will pay to have these repairs done or we may not take the house.

Bummer but that is why the inspections are a good idea. Except for the furnace the other problems are minor. A new furnace could possibly take care of the mold problems, or an insulation issue. With today's market, the seller will probably fix the problems or risk never selling.

Yeah, that's too bad, but like Sluff said, that's why inspections are done. Better to catch things now. Depending on the extent of the mold, that can be easy to get rid of or if it's real bad, it can be expensive and quite a project to get rid of, so I hope that issue wasn't too sever. I would think they will fix the problems to get the sale done. Good luck

You can also get estimates for all the work that needs doing and negotiate a lowered price that is enough to cover all the work done properly. As a buyer you have a lot of clout right now.

Has the house been sitting vacant or is it occupied?

Well we have, with the advice of our realtor chosen to back out now. The mold was pretty severe, and there was also the issue of the furnace, it apparently leaked carbon monoxide! It is a pretty big bummer as the house is nice, but in the end the health risks were not worth it, with me and my mom being sick. Our realtor is on the lookout for another home, which we're sure is out there for us! My parents are in a way relieved, this house has to many issues.

Karen,
I amsure all of you have made a wise choice,
and that you all will find the perfect home.
We are in the process of selling and buying ourselves
rite now, and it can be totally stressing (as if we all
don't have enough stress just with everyday issues)
Wishing you guys the best in finding that perfect home,
Anne

There is another great example of the wisdom of having a home inspection by a competent inspector, if the mold is severe there is really no way to get it removed completely, and the health risks for the future in your case is not something to fool with.
-
I know it's a bummer right now, but in the end, you made a wise decision to move on from that house. Some people get so excited and impatient that they make wrong decisions and regret them later. You're going to find a great house that you're happy with soon enough. Good luck and let us know what happens

BUMMER, but the right house will come along :thumbup;
