Kidney donor found on Craigslist
January 28, 2009 - 8:35AM

NEW YORK (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A New York man is lucky to be alive after his daughters found a kidney donor for him on Craigslist.

Daniel Flood was born with only one kidney and when it began to fail 18 months ago his daughters turned to the online classified site for help. They posted a listing looking for a donor and got about 100 responses.

Some of them were scams or people looking for cash, but most of them were sincere. In that group they found a perfect match. The family was amazed by her compassion.

"She wasn't just willing to do it, she was anxious to do it. She felt it was her way of giving back to the world," said Flood.

Now Flood's daughters are giving back too with a foundation and Web site to help others who need transplants find willing donors.

It's illegal to sell one's kidney on Craigslist, of course; here's a guy who tried doing that:

But it's certainly not illegal to donate one's kidney for free via Craigslist.  Maybe this will spark a trend.
