My little one is on PD and by far the worst thing for him with renal failure in general is the nausea. His drs said that once he was on dialysis the nausea should go away and sometimes it does for a week or so. But most of the time he is so nauseated that he gags if he tries to eat or nurse. Have any of you guys dealt with that and if you have what did you do? I'm sure it's different since he's so little but maybe I can come up with something to help him. Sometimes it is just miserable. I feel so awful for him. Thank God for his feeding tube!

Jess, there is some discussion of this in the Dialysis: General Discussion section. There are meds available. Based on your son's age, I wouldn't even speculate on what is right for him. Has his doctor recommended anything?

I'm sorry that I don't have any advice to offer, but I hope someone will. :grouphug;

I found this link at the American Association of Kidney patients website.
http://www.aakp.org/aakp-library/Parents-Support/index.cfm
"The Nephkids e-mail listserv group and Web site were started in January of 1998. The listserv is comprised of concerned family members, patients and medical care givers whose common goal is to share information and experiences that may benefit children and adolescents who have kidney disease."
The link for the website from the AAKP page seems to be broken, but I found the site using google:

Maybe someone in that group will be able to provide some insights :grouphug;

I don't know if treatment related nausea is different, but my grandson had chemotherapy from age 4 months to 23 months for brain cancer. Docs gave him regular doses of the drug Zofran for the nausea. Like I said before, don't know if your little fella can take this with kidney disease, but its worth asking the doctor about to make him more comfortable. I pray for your family.

When I had bad nausea in the hospital, they gave me Zophran. I would check to see what can be given to your little one. I hope he feels better soon.

His dr says the only thing that will make him less nauseated is a transplant. But, he has to gain 3 1/2 lbs before he can have a transplant and it's hard to get him to gain weight since he can't eat.
