20 year old male, from england been on dialysis for a year and a half and i p*cking hate it. on the transplant 'list' this is the first time i've been on the internet and reaserched dyalisis. i suppose it's part of the fact i'm still to admit to what i have, but this site is pretty cool actually. any women in the uk suffereing from kidney failure? reason i ask is because i'm still to meet one that isn't 600 years old.

So am I so I can understand 100% where you are coming from (I spell dialysis as dyalisis so often it is NOT even funny :-[) but there is this spell checker here that helps .. at least enough to warrent using it ;) I remember I spelled dyslexic wrong and there was someone in one of the games I played who was so rude to me telling me it is not spelled with 2 i's :(
I am glad you are here! I started young as well, just like you (my first time on dialysis I was only 16!). Here is a great place to rant and also learn about other resources! Good luck! Hey did you check out the Arcade yet?

Thanks for the kind words, i played that kidney kick up game which was pretty funny actually, i got to about 40 i think. there's alot of info here that i never even thought exsisted. i've never talked to anyone near my age about it before, everyone at the unit is atleast over 40, and i'm only 20! must've been hard starting dialysis at 16. i wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.

Well it wasn't so bad because it was Peritoneal Dialysis instead of Hemo Dialysis and I was lucky enough to get a transplant only 2 months later. It was the schools that were the hardest to deal with as my principal was not understanding or supportive to say the least! And teachers did not understand the missed time or how I would be so tired before i finally started dialysis. I used to fall asleep in class right before I started dialysis.
It is the ignorance of people that sometimes gets to me because of that but at the same time if someone asks I am glad to explain to them :)
I just started Hemo last year during summer ... it is still taking me some getting used to as I still have sooooo much to learn!

Hi Thom. You've picked a great forum ;D My son (Shades-Elfen) is 19 will be 20 in November. He's been on dialysis since he was 15. No doubt you'll hear from him soon ;D

Welcome

Welcome -- you are about the age my son was when he started hemo. He was only 19 and he turned 27 this year! It seemed to us that there were a preponderance of older people at US clinics, too. These internet sites are a good way for folks to connect.
Mom 3 (pkd pt and mother of hemo pt)

Welcome, I'm glad you joined the site. I've seen several new-ish members who are women under 40. Read up on the introduction threads, you'll see 'em. ;)

Hi Thom,
you`ll find us all really friendly and helpful here. Try not to insult anyone who is older than you etc etc etc. I started diaysis 2 months ago and had to go to hospital on a bus full of old ladies and I thought "Oh my God, my life is over!". Since then, I`ve got to know those old ladies and they are actually quite a good laugh. I`ve changed my dialysis to evenings now cos I work and I miss my little group of ladies cos I could chat to them. I`m now on with 4 blokes at night young and old and they don`t chat or have a laugh at all! Keep an open mind about these things.

Hi Thom, welcome to the site. I'm in the U.S., and I'm old (48), but there are a lot of younger people on this site. And, some of us older people are pretty cool, just like MattyBoy said. We're glad you're here, keep posting!

;D at least your sense of humor is intact. You'll be glad you're here, there are several here who are quite young and some who started dialysis while younger than you.

i didn't mean to offend anyone btw. just haven't actually met anyone that young yet. :-[
-

i never mean to offend anyone, i just don't think.
i've been on holiday this week visiting my dad, going back home today and back to my regular unit which will be a relief as all the nurses know me ect. had 3 sessions up here and each time they couldn't get the sucky needle to work, clotted twice yesterday :(
