Title: Blood Around Exit Site
Post by: joyfulmother on January 26, 2009, 06:02:26 AM
I'm learning not to panic but to be calm and ask questions first (and then panic, lol).  I just finished my first exchange of the day and noticed blood on the 2x2.  It is almost 7 weeks since my surgery and there was still a bit of a scab around the tube.  Here's what I think might have happened.  I have to cut the 2x2 to fit around the tube and the they are a bit more stringy (?) than the ones I used in training.  I think one of the strings got caught up in the cab and pulled on it.  The scab came off when I took the 2x2 off.

So, should I be concerned?  Call my PD nurse?  Anything?

(thanks)

hi there, yes, be careful not top  pull scabs off. That could have been the source of the bleeding. Be careful and I would definitely call the pd nurse. Also for your 2x2 I would ask for the IV gause sponges (they already have a slit in them that fit around the catheter). I get mines with my monthly delivery from Baxter. I hope all is ok.
