For years I've ridden my two wheeled vehicles (bicycles and scooters) all year round, even when I lived in Saskatchewan, where the temp would sometimes get down to -30 to -40 C. I just make sure I dress properly and I'm fine. However, I'm constantly having to deal with comments from family, friends, and complete strangers saying things like "Are you REALLY riding that when it's this cold?" or (for the ninth time) "Are you SURE you don't want me to drive you?" I've dealt with this a lot more in the States than I did in Canada. I appreciate peoples concern, but it really is starting to get old.

We love you and do not want you hurt.

My son says that I worry too much when I ask him questions like that. I think it's just a mother thing. I try not to do it, but sometimes I can't help myself. I think the best thing for you do do is just say "No thank you." and leave it at that.

To either of the questions I think I would give the person a "lonnngggg" look and say "no" and move on. We had motorcycles and snowmobiles for each of us and the 2 boys in ND for years and used the cycles all year..so what...I really don't care what people think and thankfully my kids picked that up from me..I had decided to be this way because my mother "always" worried about what people will think..drove me nuts..I still will do things that people will say "are you sure you ????"...oh well, they are missing out on fun..I will jetski every chance I get if I feel well enough and have not a clue how to swim... :rofl;

ride what you want to ride
drive what you want to drive
you are young and enjoy it while you can
I like to wear short sleeves and until dialysis I never wore a sweater or a jacket and that really bothered people
( it is not as cold as where you live but sometimes we had 17 degrees)
anyhow, tell them you look sexy riding two wheeled vehicles

I think people are projecting their fears onto you. You know what you can handle better than they so go ahead and do what's within your abilities. It isn't the same for everyone. Tell those you love nicely that you appreciate their concern but that you know what you're doing. Tell those you don't know that you'll be fine , thank you. However, I admit, if you were my son you would probably be hearing it from me too. Just be safe. My husband still rock climbs, mountain bikes, and skis fast. He tells me he knows what he's doing and don't bother him about it. I know him well enough to agree. Hopefully your loved ones will too.

Adam, keep doing what you love to do. This isn't the same, but when I was in Ohio last week, everytime it snowed I wanted to go out and clean my windshield and just dust the snow off the car. My family kept saying to do it when the snow stopped. I just wanted to be outside in the cold, feeling snow on my face. Just let me do what I want to do without all the warnings and worry. I think we are all smart enough to figure out what we can and can't do. Dress warm and go have fun! :cuddle;

i can't remember how many times over the years i've said "yes mother, my coat is in the car" can't imagine where i learned to lie so well. just because she was cold she thought (and still thinks) i should be wearing my coat too. ignore them. it makes life much easier.

The thing that annoys me most is when I go into a store or something on a cold day carrying my motorcycle helmet, and I have completely random people asking me "Did you ride your motorcycle here?" Sometimes I feel like saying "No, I just carry a MOTORCYCLE HELMET wherever the hell I go". Some people are genuinely concerned for my health, but some are just nosy douche bags.

I just think it's great you stay active. So what... do what you gotta do. I have a "new" 1985 honda scooter I love to ride. It has a flat right now or I would ride it too! We do have a Harley, and my hubby is on it right now. Course, it is a lot warmer here. But still, I love bike and motor bikes too! More power to ya!

Ride it like you stole it!
